Hi List and "welcome back Mike", This is a great day.l am wondering if you would happen to have a map which includes the Peel street, Salford area. l was sent an 1851 shot of my Verdon family, mistranscribed as Wendon, and they live at 24 Peel street,Greengate. [thanks Madalyn]. l am not familiar with Greengate so thought our Mike may have a map section of the area, hooray,Pauline in Aus.
Hi Mike, Great to have you back on board !! I'm trying to find WAUGH ST which I gather was in Ancoats, possibly off EVERY ST or very near to it. There is no mention of this street in any of my M/c directories.I have a rellie who was living there in 1919 [maybe earlier] and who died there in 1926. Many thanks, Cheers Kath

I have located a Peel street on the east side of the river Irwell close to the hair pin bend in the south section of the river.. At one section of my present day map it shows the Greengate name as a section in the river. I know as this travels east it bends south again and is called Greengate. All I can do is send you the map section showing Peel street and you see if you recorgnise other street names. Peel street was on the east side of Adelphi Street and about three streets north of Chapel Street. Hi all, Just to say I have now received the relevent map from Mike - and hey presto....there's Mint Court! With this, and the advice from Amy, I hope to move things on - for better or worse! Many thanks, Pat W
Hi Amy, A surprise to get this as the post I sent hasn't got to my computer yet! The death is recorded in 1897 and I have never been able to find my Annie WALKER married to John on any census. Annie was in Thomas St in August 1891, but a different family was on the 1891 census (and 1901). However, you made a good point, and when clutching at straws, I'll try anything! Thanks, Pat W Hi Pat, What year was this? Pre-1901 so that you might be able to look at census records for possible matches on "Mint Court"? We need our map man back, here here Veronica, good call,Pauline.
Hi Mike, Clutching at a straw here! My G'dad was born Thomas St. Hulme (you have kindly sorted me out with that one!) I have a death cert. now which is POSSIBLY his mother : dying at 4 Mint Court, Cross St. Hulme, South Manchester. As there was an inquest into this death, there is no clue re a family member, so I was hoping to find this address somewhere near Thomas St. I found 2 Cross Streets on the CD I have borrowed, but the detail is too small to include any "courts". Is it likely that I won't get the answer to this one! Pat W
Hi, I stumbled across this whilst doing some research into my family tree, and felt it would be beneficial. My name is Ian Pearson and I am resident in Australia, but come from a long line of Pendlebury and Salford people. Down the Pearson line, my father (Arthur) ran a bicycle shop in Chorley Road and my Grandfather (James) had an ironmongers opposite the Market Place in Swinton from the 1930's to the 1960's, beyond that we go back through another James, John, Henry and ultimately Robert - the earliest current verified relative in that line - born 1791. Other surnames attached to this line are Manifold, Wright (originally from Wolverhampton and surrounds) Walters and Seddon (Henry married a Dinah Seddon at Eccles Church in 1851) Pearsons from our line also ended up in Pittsburg USA and Ohio. Other names in my research include Rothwell ( a popular local name ) and Colpitts (I have a wealth of information on them in England and Australia). I also have Sidebottom (spelt as Sidebotham, Sidsbottom and Sidbothand in various records) dating back to the late 18th century and William a Swinton Tobacconist of the time. I hope to share some mutually beneficial info. Ian Pearson
Welcome back Mike, good to see you return, will now look at my Manchester locations and family to see where I need your help. Mint Court in 1849 was to the east of the Cavalry Barracks in Hulme. It ran from Moss Lane through to Lloyd street. Before it entered Lloyd street on the south side of Cross was Mint Court. I have sent you this map section. You said you had Thomas street map. So I did not bother trying to locate it. Remember I have to use a magnifying glass there is no street directory on these maps :)) Regrads Mike Morris Toronto Canada. ----- Original Message ----- From: "patricia williams" <pat.williams121@virgin.net> To: <eng-manchester@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 19, 2008 6:47 PM Subject: [ENG-MAN] Hulme/C-on-M map > > Hi Mike, > Clutching at a straw here!
