I have had good success in searching for relatives by using the Manchester Evening news papers 'In Touch' section. Post your queries to http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/community/in_touch I have this site posted in my favourites and check out the readers letters once a week. Also gives me an opportunity to keep up with the local news and changes going on in the area. Cheers Mike Morris Toronto Canada

Hi Graham I notice you mention the name Croasdale. My husband's gt gt grandmother was Mary CROASDALE born in Manchester 1858c. She married James GALLAGER in 1881 and her father was Stephen CROASDALE. I have been unable to discover anything further about the Croasdale family. Are any of these people listed on your tree? Thanks Jan and Jane, have checked the LDS Catalogue but no Monumental inscriptions have been filmed. A Google search tells me Sale cemetery was opened in 1862 so Elizabeth could not have been buried there. Have also checked the Manchester Burial records which is online to no avail. Sandra Do you know if Sale Cemetery is in a Church ground? If so, have you looked at LDS Family History Library Catalogue, to see if they have a Film that covers the Church and the Time frame for Burials. If so, you can order the film at your local LDS FHC and see the Burials and maybe see the one you can't read on the headstone..........
Hi All Do any listers connect with Matthew WINN who married Esther OXFORD or ORFORD at St Paul's Church, Liverpool in 1792. Their Children (8 in total) were born in Salford or Manchester and were baptised in Manchester Cathedral. I descend from their daughter Eleanor WINN who was baptised in Manchester Cathedral on the 6th February 1803. Eleanor went on to marry Samuel CROASDALE from Chorley in Liverpool in 1827. If anyone has any info on the WINN/WYNN Families of the Manchester area i'd be delighted to hear from you. Best wishes, Graham Graham Naylor, Plymouth, UK www.flickr.com/photos/gora_gray _________________________________________________________________ http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/msnnkmgl0010000002ukm/direct/01/
Hi All I know this technically comes under North Cheshire, however do any listers know anything about Cemeteries in Stockport? Ive an ancestor, Patrick PERKINS who died at Stockport Barracks on the 3rd June 1854. I have inquired with the Municipal Cemetery at Stockport and they've no record of him... has anyone ideas of where to look next? Patrick was a Roman Catholic and was not local to Stockport... Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated! Hi Ian Didn't know you were on this list? Did you get chance to speak to your Dad about the letter and other information I sent to you a couple of weeks back? Speak soon, Viv
Cemetery Sale Brooklands Cemetery, as it now styles itself, lies on both sides of Marsland Road, near Brooklands Station. The north side is the older and also houses a chapel. The north side also boasts a large number of large and ornate tombs including the unsual Smith family tomb with its stain-glass window. Because the cemetery, which opened in 1862, predated Manchester's Southern Cemetery, many wealthy Manchester families were buried in Sale. Apart from the scientist, J.P. Joule (see below), Richard Pankhurst, of the suffragette family, is buried in Brooklands cemetery. So, too, is Edward Hulton (see below), the newspaper magnate, who resided in Oakfield, Sale, until his death on 28 March, 1904 at the age of sixty-five. Another local worthy whose tomb is here is Samuel Lord, one-time occupant of the vast Oakleigh on The Avenue. He died, aged 86, in 1889. The two parts of the cemetery are connected by a tunnel under the road. In the newer southern section the newer plots include a number of military graves from World War II. http://www.personal.u-net.com/~luso/sale2.htm >From Googling on Sale and Brooklands Cemetery. Hi Sandra, Do you know if Sale Cemetery is in a Church ground? If so, you can order the film at your local LDS FHC and see the Burials and maybe see the one you can't read on the headstone.[costs $5 Aust.] Comes into the library and you have a month to look at it, and get any photocopies of entries that you want.
