Hi Jane <I've found my John JOHNSON marrying Margaret HAUGHTON in 1887 Christ Church, Bradford > I am going in the morning and can transcribe it for you. HTH Dee
I've hit a brick wall with the following and wonder if anyone fancies a challenge. I've searched the census returns high and low with all sorts of variations, but I'm coming up with nothing solid. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Charles Hulmes born c.1839 Manchester, occupation Carter - Married Jane Murray 1860 Manchester. Both aged 21 years. Father, Robert Hulmes, occupation Painter. I found Charles on 1861 census at 12 Smiths Building, Blackfriars with Jane. Cannot find Charles or Robert on 1851 or 1841 census. George Waterworth born c.1844, occupation Boatman or Waterman - Married Sarah Roach Nov.1863 at Manchester Cathedral. Father also George Waterworth, occupation farmer. I can't find George on any of the census returns. His poor wife Sarah was in Salford Workhouse in 1871 with a new born son and her two other children were residing with her father Joseph Roach in Salford. She then went on to have two more children in 1882 and 1884. I have found Sarah on all the census, but there is no sign of George on any of them. When she was in the workhouse in 1871, her marital status was m. so he wasn't deceased. Help please!!!
I will keep your query unless I hear someone has found what you want. I don't yet know when I will get to Central Library, but hope it will be soon. Hi All I've had a huge breakthrough with my JOHNSON's <yippeeeeeeeee> I've found my John JOHNSON marrying Margaret HAUGHTON in 1887 Christ Church, Bradford (Mar qtr 1887 Prestwich 8d 340). I'm wondering if someone could look this marriage up for me, I will get the certificate but it won't be for another month, and I'm so impatient :o)) It's taken me so long to get my John Johnson right! (In 1871 I have about 50 to choose from, and they're just the one's spelt correctly!) I'm desperate to know who his father is so I can move further back with this family. Jane :o) In wet and windy Cornwall wishing she was still in Manchester!

Hello Kergan, Chorlton Cum Hardy in 1829 was mainly countryside with a few large homes. It would be a long journey by horse to get into central Manchester and some of the hospitals. So maybe he was born there and moved at a later date. Unless he was performing his duties as a doctor at the local military barracks in Hulme named Cavalry Barracks. This would have been a short distance from Chorlton cum Hardy. Dear Jane, I accept your offer with gratitude. I can find nothing about my g.grandfather, Robert Holding (Holden) who was married to my g.grandmother Tamar Wroe) who died in 1845 in Eccles, Lancs. The children lived with their married sister Mary Millward in a Naismyth foundry house in Patricroft. Tamar was born in 1801 Robert seems to have flown the coop before his wife's death but I can find no trace of him. His name is shown on my grandfather's wedding certificate as father of the groom but whether this means he was alive then, I do not know. Any light you can throw on this puzzle would be much appreciated. Hi Glenys I think I've found the family in 1841 - 1871 minus Joesph W unfortunately. The later census returns are including the surnames Heir, Welch, Williamson, Is this the right family? Hi Jane Sorry, but I have absolutely nothing on Israel & Eliza other than their names. I am just starting the foray into English certificates and are still awaiting them. Family stories go that they may have gone to Canada or America. Just wondering if they turn up in 1851, 1861 and maybe 1871 Census MariaNSW, Aus > From: arcmikmum@talktalk.net> To: eng-manchester@rootsweb.com> Date: Thu, 26 Jun 2008 23:26:48 +0100> Subject: Re: [ENG-MAN] Lookups offered on ancestry> > Hi Maria> > do you have a year of birth for Israel and Eliza?> > Jane :o)> > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Maria Thomas" <mnmthomas@hotmail.com>> To: <eng-manchester@rootsweb.com>> Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2008 11:17 PM> Subject: Re: [ENG-MAN] Lookups offered on ancestry> > > >> > Hi Jane> > Many thanks for your offer, if you could please check for the following > > family - maybe then I can work out where they went :-)> >> > Israel & Eliza Dora OLIVE (nee BUXTON) m1849 at Manchester (awaiting the > > cert).> > Son - John Henry OLIVE b1850 at Manchester (another cert) m1871 to Eliza > > DRURY - this family with children arrived in Aust 1879.> >> > So I am trying to work out what happened to Israel & Eliza and if John had > > siblings.> >> > Many thanks againMariaNSW, Aus> >> >> >> >> From: arcmikmum@talktalk.net> To: eng-manchester@rootsweb.com> Date: Thu, > >> 26 Jun 2008 23:10:58 +0100> Subject: [ENG-MAN] Lookups offered on > >> ancestry> > Hi All> > While I'm waiting on certificates! Son - John Henry OLIVE b1850 at Manchester (another cert) m1871 to Eliza DRURY - this family with children arrived in Aust 1879. Hi I am new to this - having researched my tree for some 18 months I have acquired an addiction that has no cure! I live in Lincolnshire but have family members dotted around the country. My paternal grandparents came from Manchester - mainly the Chorlton registration district. I am interested in the Page family who lived-in Stretford Road, Hulme for a number of years. They were furniture dealers, French polishers and cabinet makers. They had a furniture shop in Stretford Road.for several years. The family members I am researching are; Charles Horace Page 1842-1911 Mirriam Page 1840-1918 Ann Page 1861 Mirriam Page 1863-1934 Walter Page 1865-1942 Amy Page-1867 Emily Page1869-1959 Arthur Page 1873-1929 James Page 1877 Alice Page 1879 Florence Page 1881 At the moment I would appreciate someone looking up the obituary for Charles Horace Page who died 12 Feb 1911 - he committed - I would like to know the details leading up to this event. Thanks Chris
