Can any one on the List tell me if the Electoral Rolls for England are available on Ancestry. I think I have discovered a long lost relative and the details could help me confirm it.Any help most appreciated. Jim Cleary, NZ
A very big thank you to everyone who has replied both on and off list with suggestions for research for the Charlottes QUEEN and LLEWELLYN. There is much to do now and it will be a weekend task of mine. I hope to contact you all individually – hopefully with a positive result. I neglected to mention in my initial query that the LLEWELLENs lived in Rochdale which is why my seemingly off-topic question was sent to the ENG-MAN list. Ruth

I recently found my relative who was born in Pendleton and immigrated to Fall River, MA in the early 1870's and then in 1877 immigrated with his family to Sydney. I really never thought that I would find him. First I found a likely candidate on the passenger lists on Ancestry. I joined a couple of Australia Mailing lists and posted the family story of his immigration and death. He was killed by lightening and a couple of people on the lists pointed me to an inquest about a man with his name killed by lightening. That narrowed down the area and I sent for this man's death record. TheAustralian death record listed the wife's name and place of marriage (which was key to proving he was mine) and his surviving children and their ages. It also gave his parent's names and mother's maiden name. I have since been able to trace the family through Ancestry's Australian Electoral rolls. I suggest looking through the Australian records at Family Search and Ancestry. If you can locate a likely death record for your great aunt or her son, I think it is well worth getting. I would also join some Australian mailing lists. Good Luck! Hi Andy This page might help http://www.jaunay.com/ Look under free help And also the National Archives http://www.naa.gov.au/ There are quite a few hits on a name search of all records including one for Arthur Savery born Manchester enlisting in WW1 aged 20 years 5 mths - you can view his enlistment papers online. There are others in other states so perhaps the family or part of it moved interstate. Some states have online BMD indexes and most of our certificates have a great deal of information - more than the UK - a listing of sites and whether they have online indexes is here http://www.coraweb.com.au/bdmaut.htm Hope he is yours. Ruth, My gGPs were in Hazarabad, India. gGF was RRArtillery. Took several weeks to get to the modern version of the placename. For place names, try http://dsal.uchicago.edu/reference/gazetteer/ Why was this family in India? East India Company? Military? Civil Servants? Also, you can send the image of the placename to me offline at above email if you wish. MEJ in Calif.
