Thank you Richard, I have no connection to that family, I think it's safe to say my Johnston's moved from there between 1909 and 1911. Thank you again. A point to beware of is that over the years streets changed their names and some street names were recycled from one street to another not far away. John

Hi, I have been trying to relate the various house moves of my grgrandmother Harriet Thickett/Haigh around the area Hulme and Gorton area but am handicapped by not yet having been able to get to the area. I know that I may have asked for some info before, but am trying finally to get it straight in my poor old Brain so please forgive me: have been peering at on-line maps all day...anyone got an aspirin? First address: 7Hardy Street Hulme, I have located this previously with help form Mike Morris as having been off the Hyde Road: the nearest street still extant on current maps is Clowes Street. Still I ask myself is this not in Gorton rather than Hulme . Or is Gorton a part of Hulme? Might there be another Hardy Street somewhere in the area? 2nd address: 13 Beswick Street Gorton. The Beswick Street I have found on the 1935 A-Z map adjoins Ashton New Road and crosses the Manchester Ashton etc. Canal and ends at a junction with Mill Street and Bradford Street . Is this Gorton? Does anyone know whether this address was more than a dwelling house? 3rd address: 26 Buxton Street. I have a death Certificate with this address on Registration District : Manchester; Sub District : Manchester. Unfortunately the registrar did not indicate a place for this street and I have been unable to find it. Thanks Dick ----- No virus found in this message. Firstly I would like to say hello to those in this group. My name is Darryn DAVENPORT and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I am interested in learning more about my GGG Grandfather Thomas DAVENPORT, who lived in or about Manchester until 1852 when he and his family emigrated to Australia. Specifically I would really like to know any Lancashire address(es) the family lived at and also any information regarding his parents. I do already know that;; Thomas DAVENPORT was born about 1809 and married Ann Mary GIBSON on 14th July 1833 at St Mary the Virgin Prestwich Lancashire (Source: Lancashire OnLine Parish Records). The parish record states that they come from Oldham. Thomas' death record lists his fathers name as John. Thomas and Ann Mary had the following children .... Jane DAVENPORT (Christened on 27 Apr 1834 in Cathedral, Manchester...per FamilySearch.Org records) Thomas DAVENPORT (Christened on 31 Jul 1836 in Cathedral, Manchester...per FamilySearch.Org records) James DAVENPORT(Christened on 27 Aug 1843 in Cathedral, Manchester...per FamilySearch.Org records) George DAVENPORT (Christened on 4th Jan 1846 in Cathedral, Manchester...per FamilySearch.Org records) Charles DAVENPORT (Baptisms: 9 Jan 1848 St Philip, Salford, Lancashire ...per FamilySearch.Org records) Frank DAVENPORT (born 3 Nov 1850 ...per FamilySearch.Org records) The on line Parish records for these christenings give the abode as Salford and the occupation of Thomas as Silk Dyer. I have trawled through both the 1841 & 1851 census and cannot find them. I have also looked with limited access (and without success) in on-line local newspapers of the time and Manchester library web resources. I would appreciate any suggestions this group could make. Thank-you and my best regards, Darryn Davenport Melbourne Australia

Hi Pat I know where most of the family are in 1911, they were at 6 Grafton St in 1901 and their son Andrew is still listed there in 1909. The family are: Andrew Johnston - b1853 Manchester - (1911 he's in Manchester Workhouse) Elizabeth Ann - b1855 Ardwick - (1911 she's a monthly nurse with the Thomas family in Denton) Andrew - b1876 Manchester - (1911 he's married and on Chelford St, Manchester) Harriet - b1879 Newton Le Willows Thomas - b1881 Manchester - (1911 he's married and on Gomm St, Longsight) John - b1883 Stourbridge, Staffs - (1911 he's married and in Halifax, Yorks) Margaret - b1887 Manchester - (1911 she's married and in Grimsby, Lincs) Emma - b1888 Southwark, London - (I think I have her in 1911 visiting the Pearson family in Gorton) Elizabeth - b1890 Southwark, London - (1911 she's with her sister Margaret in Grimsby) The only one I haven't found is Harriet, I was hoping to see if there was a clue with the address in 1911 for her.
