    1. [ENG-MAN] HOLLIS/WALKER Marriage Witnesses
    2. Chris & George Jamieson
    3. I have received the marriage certificate for George WALKER to Hannah HALLOWS which took place in Manchester Cathedral on 25th August 1841. You may remember my posts regarding Hannah's surname being HALLOWS or HOLLIS or ALLISS etc. The witness names mean nothing to me, so I am wondering if anyone on the List has a marriage cert from Cathedral for around this time which may have the same names as witnesses, therefore indicating they were "church" witnesses, rather than friends or relatives of the couple. The witness names are Mary NUTTALL and the other is John LASER or HASER - I'm not sure of the first letter in the surname. Any help much appreciated. Chris, Sydney Australia

    3. Hello everyone, Further to the assistance of Dianne .... I have not only found Emma Hatton's baptism & birth but several siblings including her sisters Eliza (married James Chapman) and my own 3xgreat grandmother Mary Ann Hatton...all baptised at St.Peter's Liverpool where Mary herself was later married in 1830. Just fantastic! Her 'new' and correct parents were married there too in 1800!!!!!! I had researched this family many years ago but got 'stuck'. Now thanks to this list I now have the 'right' family...proving that my earlier research though good at the time is now 'wrong'...so I'm now on track and will certainly find more to support it. So it does pay to go back to earlier research and reflect on what one has acquired and check it...amazingly after time many brick walls can be hurdled! Thank you once again...everyone do keep up the great work in helping each other. regards Elizabeth ----- Original Message ----- From: "elizabeth kraus" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 30, 2011 10:12 PM Subject: [ENG-MAN] Fw: Fw: Hatton/Skipwith/Chapman > Just to thank Dianne for this information. > regards > Elizabeth > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Zaffox Pty Ltd" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Thursday, April 28, 2011 11:10 PM > Subject: Re: [ENG-MAN] Fw: Hatton/Skipwith/Chapman > > >> >> Also tried UK BMD which says: >> >> HATTON Emma SKIPWITH Thomas George Daresbury, All Saints Halton >> C10/1/55 >> >> >> for 1840 So I think this is the actual church they married at >> >> And familysearch says: >> >> Emma Hatton >> England, Cheshire, Marriage Bonds and Allegations, 1606-1900 >> Emma Hatton >> birth 1819 >> spouse: Thomas George Skipwitt >> >> record title: England, Cheshire, Marriage Bonds and >> Allegations, >> 1606-1900 >> name: Thomas George Skipwitt >> event: Intended marriage >> event date: 03 Jul 1840 >> event place: Cheshire, England >> gender: Male >> age: 21 >> spouse: Emma Hatton >> spouse's age: 21 >> digital folder number: 4018658 >> >> >> then I looked at England, Cheshire Parish Registers, 1538-2000 >> entered emma hatton, Spouse Name: thomas george >> >> and got parents: Thomas Hatton >> spouse: Thomas George Shipw...Th >> >> record title: England, Cheshire Parish Registers, 1538-2000 >> name: Thomas George Shipw...Th >> gender: Male >> event type: Marriage >> marriage date: 15 Jul 1840 >> marriage place: Daresbury, Cheshire, England >> father's name: Gray Shipw...Th >> principal's residence: , Daresbury, Cheshire, England >> spouse's name: Emma Hatton >> spouse's residence: , Daresbury, Cheshire, England >> spouse's father: Thomas Hatton >> age: Full Age >> digital folder number: 4019035 >> >> >> Regards >> Dianne >> >>> >>> >>> Hello everyone >>> Firstly just to let you know that I found an ancestor's marriage & 2 >>> burials on the Lancashire OPC...so thanks Sally. >>> >>> Please can someone help ... >>> -I'm looking for the marriage of Emma Hatton & ? 3. Again, thanks to Val and Marian for your advice. I have ordered Joseph WALKER's birth certificate as well as George & Hannah's marriage certificate, so will be interesting to see what spelling for Hannah HALLOWS/HOLLIS etc. appears on both of them. Thanks for the reminder about spelling of names in the 19th century - it's easy to forget when using today's standards that things were written as they sounded back then. I'll let you know what the certs produce! Cheers Chris

    1. [ENG-MAN] Elizabeth MORETON - John PROUD
    2. Christine Benson
    3. Hi All, I have just received the death certificate of Elizabeth MORETON (MORTON). She died in 1868 in Lime Grove, Cheadle, Cheadle Bulkeley aged 75 of bronchitis. John PROWD was in attendance. The only John PROWD I can find was a butcher, as was Edward MORETON, Elizabeth's deceased husband. Elizabeth was living in Barton-upon-Irwell in 1861 and generally North Manchester. John PROWD also lived in Barton-upon-Irwell. So why was she in Lime Grove? Was there any sort of nursing care there? Why was John PROWD there rather than one of her children? (John was not married to one of her children.) The only thing I can think of is a business friendship although in 1851 Elizabeth was a publican. Has anyone any suggestions? Christine
