Hi Pam, Thank you so much for the information you have sent me. I have been working through my elderly mother's bits and pieces and I believe there could have been another William born earlier and past away, but I don't know how or when. To date I can't find any else to indicate that there could have been another Emily. You have given me so much information to work with and maybe I can link some of it to something in my mother's collection. I will keep looking and maybe I will come across a name or piece of paper which may shed some more light on the mystery. Thanks again for your help - I really appreciate it. Hi Mary, Not sure where you live but does your local library have acess to Newspapers online - check it out as the 19th Century British Library Newspapers [Gale] it is great. I was able to look up the following paper. The Manchester Examiner Tuesday Oct 19 1847 page 6 under the heading Borough Sessions. There isn't a description of the court proceedings. Only a list of the jury and what type of crimes and how often they occured. The computer says the paper is the The Manchester Times and Gazette Do you hve the information from Ancestry - do you know where they went to jail. Unfortunately no info for you but theremay be other papers with more info. Do the court papers still exist or not. Dear Christine, Gilly, Antony, Mary Lou and Pauline; I am absolutely thrilled ! Thank you VERY much for your help. Oswalds life is coming together like a puzzle within hours - while my friend searched libraries and enzyklopedias for a month. In the meantime the Ellis Island Records were searched and we found that he went to the States in 1892 (with father, mother and brother) when he was 11. Your information was of great help! Thanks a lot! Hanno

Dear Listers, I posted last month but without success. I was hoping that someone might have access to the local papers for Oct 1847. Henry Craddock was supposed to have been sentenced at the Manchester Quarter Sessions., along with a female accomplice for street robbery. This info. I've gleaned from a later report about his activities. I'd very much like details of his crime and who the accomplice was as she seems to have been involved with him in a later crime and I wonder if she may have been his wife. Best wishes, Mary
