    3. Francis Chadwick (1884-1918) Rifleman 2nd battalion, Royal Irish Rifles KIA 24 March 1918 Villeselve Cugny, France He was the grandfather I never knew of course, only the little told to us by my grandmother. My grandmother and mother told us he was missing in action and they never knew what happened to him . They got an official letter,"missing presumed dead". Then in 1996 my sister was watching a TV program about WW1 war memorials and started to wonder if he was listed anywhere. She contacted the British Legion and after a series of referrals found out that he was buried in Roye New British Cemetery. One of the contacts she made was a retired policeman who researched such things and could take us to his burial site. I flew from the US to England to meet my sister and our escort took us on a tour of the relevant battlefield area where Francis died and then finally to his grave. How wonderful it was to "meet" him after 78 years and how it made my heart ache that my mother and grand mother never knew where he was. I think they would be comforted however to see his peaceful resting place and that his family had finally found him. Shirley USA
