Hello, I have a generalo question about ordering a death certificate. I am trying to rule out who my ancestor is married too and I found 3 possible mathces. These 3 women all died in the same county. But there is like a year apart from each death. I am trying to rule out which of these 3 women was his wife. I was wondering if there was a way that the records office can check to see which of these women were his wife if I gave them the husbands name or any other info. I beleive its called a reference check. If so how much is it for the check and what other information would i need Any further inforamtion appreciated Anthony
Anthony, why not post details of the people you are after to the list and perhaps someone catch some clue you have missed. Anthony You can order the certificate from the GRO in the normal way for the standard charge of £9.25 but where it asks if you know the GRO Index Reference Number, tick the box saying you do NOT have these details. If you specify the middle year and they will search one year either side of this date. You can also specify the husband's name in the hope that he was the informant. If this does not match any of their 3 year search, you will not be sent a certificate and your money will be refunded in full as they are no longer allowed to charge for a checking service. I hope this helps. Hi Anthony, I believe that the General Records Office stopped offering the reference checks a couple of years back. I'm not sure if the local records office in Lancashire would be able to offer you any assitance, but it's always worth asking - https://lccsecure.lancashire.gov.uk/online/services/certificate/ Regards, Sally ---------------------------------------- > Date: Tue, 30 Oct 2012 19:15:47 -0700 > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: [ENG-LIV] Ordering Death Certificates General Question > > Hello, > > I have a generalo question about ordering a death certificate.
