    3. Hello Listers. My Great-aunt Sophia Johnston (nee Edwards) left over 4.000 when she died in 1935. There was no will and my grandfather Richard Edwards and his brother Evan John were granted powers of Administration. She and her late husband Joseph Johnston had no children and I presume Richard, John and the other three surviving brothers were the only beneficiaries. This is a bit of a mystery as if they got an equal share, £800 would have been a large sum to my family in 1935 and yet at the end of that year my grandparents could not afford the 16s8d rent out of their £1 per week pension and moved to a cottage without electricity or water, in North Wales However, what I really want to know is whether the money came from her husbands family. From her marriage cert dated 1 Feb 1903, I know that Joseph Johnston age 49 , widower was a baker at 22 West Derby Road, Liverpool and his father was Joseph Johnston (deceased) corn dealer. The 1881 census shows Joseph living at 55 Conyer St. Kirkdale age 26 a shopman in the flour trade with his first wife Lily. (although their cert. of marriage at St. George, Everton of 9 Sep 1878 , shows her as Ellen Elizabeth Walton and he is Joseph Johnston described as a bachelor ,age 34 flour dealer of 68 Lambert Rd. Maybe the census should read 36? I can not find his baptism and there are a number of possible Births so I would be very grateful if some kind soul would look him up in the 1871 and 1861 Regards, Nora
