As already said you haven't given any details that are on the Wedding Cert . but could he read and write ? The only reason I say that is that whilst having a quick search for the name on the limited free searches I use , I happened to notice the name McQuillan and  varients such as McQuillian (with an extra i )  which seems quite a popular name in Lancs . I have very little documentary evidence of my Father's existence other than his Marriage Certificate to my Mother in 1939, and his Death Certificate from 1945. I have visited his place of death in Withnell Pulmonary Hospital, and have found his unmarked grave in Thornton Garden of Rest. There is some limited anecdotal evidence, but I have drawn a blank since the death of my Mother in 1997.
