    3. Hi Listers, I have a relative who was born in India around 1869. I only have her in 1901 census living in Bootle, with her husband and four children. She died in childbirth 1902. I have her marriage 1894 St John Kirkdale. What I'm hoping for, is that someone can point me to where I can find information, of her arriving in England from India or via wherever between her birth and her marriage dates. I would be very grateful for any suggestions. Regards. Jean

    3. Jean, For information and records of the British in India go to the Families in British India Society (FIBIS) website at: http://www.new.fibis.org/ They have lots of information about how to find records. Passengers lists for ships arriving in England are on Ancestry. If you want me to try to find your relatives arriving contact me off-list. I might also be able to help with records in India. 3. Jean It would help to know her father's occupation, as this will give us a clue as to who provided the transport. If her father was in the Army, then it's likely the family came back on a troopship, and not a regular passenger ship. Ancestry has incoming shipping records from 1878 to 1860. (They had free access to immigration records this last weekend!) 3. I went to the recommended web site, Fibis.org.  I searched the whole site, and did find a Richard Howat on a list of inhabitants of Europeans in Bengal.  It said he was a coachmaker, and had been there 12 yrs.  But, I couldn't find what the date was of this list, unless maybe I joined the list at L15.  So I still don't know if it is the Richard Howat I'm looking for.  Would coach makers have made a lot of money?  He later came to England and married Helen Clark in London in 1803, then purchased the estate of Mabie in Kirkcudbrightshire in Scotland, and became a wealthy esquire.  How would he have done that?  They didn't have assembly lines back then.       But, thanks for the site address.   Marc Archer Ludington, MI --- On Tue, 8/28/12, David Armstrong <[email protected]> wrote: From: David Armstrong <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] Born in India To: [email protected] Date: Tuesday, August 28, 2012, 8:53 PM Jean It would help to know her father's occupation, as this will give us a clue as to who provided the transport.  If her father was in the Army, then it's likely the family came back on a troopship, and not a regular passenger ship. 3. Marc Your Richard would almost certainly have had a connection with the East India Company if he was in Bengal in the in 1790s. The LDS has plenty of HEIC records on microfilm which can be ordered into your local LDS library for a nominal fee (to cover p&p charges). https://familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=topicdetails&subject=751445&subject_disp=India+-+Officials+and+employees&columns=*,0,0 David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: MARC ARCHER To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2012 11:11 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] Born in India I went to the recommended web site, Fibis.org.
