My great-great-aunt Lizzie Pierpoint (married name Elizabeth KEITH) held the licence for this hotel at 31 London Road in Liverpool from about 1891 to the 1911 census, and probably beyond. I'm wondering if any lister has a trade directory for the period later than 1911 to see if she still held the licence? I suspect she died in 1922 as she is the only Elizabeth Keith, born about 1841, in the GRO death indexes for Liverpool. I'm also interested in knowing who had the licence after her - she had no children. And perhaps a date when she first took over the licence? She was the licensed victualler in 1891 so it had to be between 1881 and 1891. I know the hotel licence was held by the Condliffs and Modsley families since the 1840s. Lizzie was related to the Modsleys through her sister-in-law Sarah Williams whose brother George had married Fanny Modsley. Lizzie was a barmaid at the pub in census 1881, interesting that she later held the licence for 20 years or more, what a career move! If anyone has any more information about the Clock Inn, I'd be grateful. It is now Paddy's Bar and I visited it a few years ago. Thank you. Caroline Cavanagh Darwin, Australia.
