    3. Good afternoon. Can someone tell me - In the date range of about 1885-1910: Were the communities of Merseyside and Sefton, neighborhoods of Liverpool proper, or were they separate from Liverpool ? If a couple were married at St James in Sefton, is it more accurate to list it as St James, Sefton, Lancashire; or St James, Sefton, Liverpool, Lancashire; or something else ? I really can’t find a clear answer. Thank you, W W

    3. At the time in question, Sefton (also spelled Sephton) was a parish in the County of Lancashire. St James would have been the dedication of the church in which the wedding took place. A Marriage Certificate will state whether or not the marriage was in the jurisdiction of Liverpool. < http://www.genuki.com/big/eng/LAN/Sefton/ > (Genuki is a good site to answer this sort of question). As Liverpool has grown, it has absorbed surrounding parishes and now Sefton is a Metropolitan Borough in the Metropolitan County of Merseyside created in 1974. < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sefton,_Merseyside > < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merseyside > David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: Fontaine Wiatt To: eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, June 26, 2014 11:04 PM Subject: [ENG-LIV] Merseyside and Sefton Good afternoon.
