    3. Hi Bert One of my distant rels was drowned in the Mersey and it was reported in one of the papers. You might find some info in the newspaper collections on Find My Past or Ancestry.com. Both free at genealogical societies and/or State libraries. Cheers Graham Melbourne Oz

    3. Have you searched the British Newspaper Archive, Guardian and Times archives? No point in duplicating what you have already done. Have you got a date for the death, easier to search the newspapers over a narrow date range. 3. The Manchester Guardian 4th June 1910 A MYSTERY OF THE MERSEY An inquest was held by the West Cheshire coroner yesterday on an unknown man whose body, after having apparently been in the water only an hour or two, was picked up in the Mersey at Liverpool on Tuesday morning. The Coroner said all the appearances indicated that he was a man of position, but, although a detailed description had been published he had not been identified. The jury returned an open verdict. The man was about fifty years of age and 5ft. 8in. In height. His possessions included a pocket knife marked "Richardson, cutlers, Derby," and a tailor's thimble.
