Hi Maggie, What we believe about JJS is that he died after falling from a horse in Cambridge St, East Collingwood, although I have also been given to believe from family historians that it may have been diphtheria and that he died "in the bush". He is believed to be one of the 400 un-named souls who rest in the Bristol Hill Cemetery in Maryborough, although this is a considerable distance away. I've searched Trove for a record of the accident, as well as family notices for more clues on his passing and burial, but to no avail. Do you have an official source? It is said that his wife Sophia was treated badly by the rest of the family and decided to return to England with the four children. Another was born on the voyage home, but did not survive (another reason for locating the shipping records). Kind regards Hugh On Sunday, 11 January 2015 7:46 AM, Maggie Goodman via <eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com> wrote: Found the death of JJS Outtrim aged only 28 yrs at the time of his death in 1859. According to the Daily Postshe arrived in Liverpool on the night of Saturday, 10 March 1860 having departedMelbourne on 9 December. Theitem reports the names of the cabin passengers and notes the existence of ‘intermediateand steerage passengers’, but does not list them. Oneof those is thought to be my gg grandmother, Sophia Ellen Outtrim (née Symonds, originally of Yarmouth) who returned to England with her four childrenfollowing the premature death of her husband James John Stephenson Outtrim in ariding accident. Theout-going passenger list (Victoria PRO) includes a Mrs Outram [sic] and her4 children, although the ages of 3 are accurate, the names and genders are not. I’mhoping the inward passenger list might prove more accurate. Doesanyone know of the existence of such passenger lists and how they might beaccessed? Kindregards for the New Year. if his death was unexplained there will determinately be an inquest, they loved nothing more than having a good get together at the local pub and have an inquest afterwards. What was his name again and I could check in the inquest index and see if he appears.
