    3. Good Morning Listers…… I spent yesterday snug inside on my computer after Tuesday’s horrendous “hurricane-like” snowstorm. (80 mile an hour winds and 3 feet of snow in 8 ½ hours), researching FHL records and found two of my 1800’s ancestors with strange sounding occupations. Could anyone please tell me what “stillroom maid” and “dyker” would be? I may have more questions tomorrow as I’ll probably spend it on the computer as well since another storm with another 2-3 feet of snow is predicted to be coming in about midnight tonight (no strong winds this time though). The snow isn’t much we get that much every winter….but those winds! It took down power lines, uprooted trees, turned 18 wheeler trucks on their sides and along the Massachusetts coast tore apart houses. That happens frequently during hurricanes but not during the winter storms. Thanks for any help and God bless. Michelle Vermont USA

The still-room maid is a junior servant, and as a member of the between staff, reports to both the housekeeper and the cook. Once common in houses with large staffs, the still-room maid is rare in the 21st century. > > Thanks for any help and God bless. > > Michelle > > Vermont USA > > ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ > > Admin Message - List guidelines: > http://freespace.virgin.net/genealogical.collections/AdminMessage.htm > > The list admin can be contacted at > Eng-Liverpool-admin@rootsweb.com > > Buy or sell family research items on the GEN-MAT-UKI mailing list. 3. Dyker is a builder of dry stone walls. My fallback for unknown terms is always is Google ;-) Joan On Jan 29, 2015, at 8:24 AM, Michelle Wilson via <eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com> wrote: > Good Morning Listers…… > > I spent yesterday snug inside on my computer after Tuesday’s horrendous > “hurricane-like” snowstorm.
