Ted, I think the firm may have been called "Tattis", or some similar spelling. In the late 1940s I visited a house in the area where the mother ran a little cottage industry on behalf of the crisp manufacturers, filling those little blue screws of paper with salt - remember them? Sometimes they flowed OK, but other times they were quite damp? I remember that they got paid something like half a crown per hundred, or it may have been per thousand, for the finished screws. The kids all helped, and would run in from the street, fill a few papers, and go out to play again. Honestly I kid you not - food hygiene didn't come into it. Have to say I am not certain which crisp company it was - there may have been more than one but Tattis is the only name that comes to mind. Marj hi everybody, do anyone remember the firm that used to make potato crisps in the celler of a house in Boaler Street, back in the 1950,s? I really would like to know about one person in particular who I believe was the owner of the firm, in particular around the 1933 to 34 years, I would love to hear from anyone who worked there or just knew about the owners? Its nothing serious just that he was involved in my family at that time as a good friend of my grandmother and her family. Thanks very much.
