    3. Sue, The Irish Civil Registration Indexes are on-line at the LDS Pilot site (they are transcribed from the printed indexes in Dublin). http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=collectionDetails There are no Albert Desmond's listed, but there is a unnamed "Male" Desmond registered in 1869 in Dublin. The actual Birth Registers (1864-80 &1900-21) are available on microfilm http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titledetails&titleno=452818&disp=Quarterly+returns+of+births+in+Ireland%2 &columns=*,0,0 and can be ordered in through your local LDS Library. (There is a link on their home page "Find a Library near You" < www.familysearch.org > ). FreeBMD has a Gladys MAY (not Muriel) Desmond whose birth is registered in Portsea in 1898. Don't forget that Portsea has a connection with the Royal Navy, so it's possible that a marriage may have taken place outside the British Isles. Sue, it sounds as if your nephew needs to actually go back to basics and get a couple of the certificates in question to prove some of the intervening detail between your nephew and Albert and get extra details on those certificates. Reading between the lines, this appears not to have been done yet. The birth index for Frank Desmond only indicates that the mother's surname was Arnett. It does not necessarily mean that the parents were actually married. If they were married, the birth certificate should read "Eugenie Desmond formerly Arnett", but if they weren't, it should read just "Eugenie Arnett". Also, are you aware that Desmond is derived from the Irish Ó Deasmhumhnaigh ? Hope this helps David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: Sue Miller To: eng-liverpool-l@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, October 04, 2009 2:21 AM Subject: [ENG-LIV] Irish records/1901 census Dear Listers I'm helping nephew in law who has just got the bug but has a greatgrandfather born somewhere in Ireland....great! His name is Albert DESMOND born c1869....apparently one daughter is Gladys Muriel DESMOND born c1897...this may be with first wife. The birth of son Frank A registered at Pancras in Sept qtr 1911, mother Eugenie ARNETT could be second wife...2 daughters born 1912 and 1916. Cannot find England and Wales marriage of Albert and Eugenie so assume they married in Ireland. That is all that is known at the moment so any information much appreciated. regards Sue
