Hello listers. My first posting, I would appreciate help to find a birth reg. for Walter Gifford HILTON, b. abt 1843, on census. On the IGI there is WGH parents James and Catherine HILTON, birth 13 Nov 1842, Christened 21 April 1844, Saint Peter, Liverpool. I believe he is "mine" but the only ref. I found on Free BMD and Ancestry is unreadable/incomplete. It reads: Walter Gifford HILTON, reg. 1842. 0ct/nov/dec. District Liverpool (1837-1934), Lancashire. Vol. 20, PAGE 1-- Of course, GRO could not issue any copy upon request. I am trying to confirm the IGI entry. Perchance, does anyone have access to Saint Peter's records, or might find an index reference ? I will order the LDS film 0093884, if necessary, but it takes 5-6 weeks to get them ........ Hello Madeline, You can order certificates without the reference number but it is more expensive. I think it is £11.00 without a reference. Madeline, You should be able to get a copy from the GRO. Just order as normal but enter the page no. as "1--" and add a note that the reference is illegible. It's worked for me in the past. I've looked at the FreeBMD image and agree that's it's very indistinct, in fact I wouldn't be too sure that the first digit is a "1".
