The Parish was established in 1849, and the first church, designed by Edward Pugin, opening in 1860. The church was badly damaged during the Second World War, and reopened after rebuilding in 1854. It is a Decorated Gothic building made of red sandstone. At the time of writing, the church was earmarked for closure in the restructuring of inner city parishes.
