Hi all, the cafe is still there and is part of local cycling legend. I think it is called the Eureka Cafe. I have been reading, with interest, the articles about cycling. I belonged to a club in about 1947/9, can't remember the name but, we had a place in the Wirral that we camped at on the Friday or Saturday nights and took off?the next?morning into Wales. Stopped at all the places mentioned in previous emails. And, yes we also cycled through the Mersey Tunnel, pedaled as fast as we could trying to beat the people who had taken the ferry across to Birkenhead. Unfortunately that all came to an end one day when I received a letter from "His Majesty's Service" and spent the next two years in Catterick Camp, Royal Signals. After that went to work for British Callenders Construction Co in Prescott and ultimately ended up in America but, I'm still a "Scouse" and always will be even though I'm now 79 years old with many, many happy memories of those days.
