    3. Carolyn, There is no such thing as a "British" accent :-) My husband and I come from opposite ends of England, but both would pronounce the "H" in Homer. Whether or not the "H" is pronounced is very much a regional thing, and perhaps even educational. I can remember my mother getting very cross with my brothers when they dropped the "H" in imitation of their peers at school in Wigan. But I think it is true to say that it might have been dropped in parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire. Hi Judith, I just found a "Mary" and a "Halsey" children of Omer Appleton, all born around the same time as Esther... If you say "Homer" with a British accent would it sound like "Omer?" I wish we could use the 'search' feature on the Lanc -OPR site!
