Hello all, I have been asked to pass on the following information by the Lancashire Online Parish Clerks. As of Monday 7th September 2009, you can offer your services by going to the main web page and clicking on 'Volunteer Opportunities' which is found in the left hand margin - http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/indexw.html Within the explanation about becoming a (much valued) transcriber, is this paragraph, which may help you decide whether this is something you would like to be involved in: "Transcribing parish records can be very rewarding. No previous experience is needed, nor do you need any specialist equipment. You do not have to live in Lancashire, nor do you have to live near to a record office or library. Our transcribers come from all over the world. You do need to have access to a computer with spreadsheet software (Excel, Open Office or Works), and be familiar with the basics of using one. Volunteers are given full instructions and support, and there is an opportunity to try out the task of transcribing before you commit yourself further." Regards, Sally
