Hello again List! I'm looking for an obit for Mary Newgreen who died 9 Dec 1847 of 29 Trowbridge Street Liverpool. Any idea where she could have been buried? A copy of her death cert states: "DEATH in the Sub-district of Mount Pleasant in the County of Lancaster. #433, 9 Dec 1847, 29 Trowbridge Street, Liverpool, female, 65 years, Widow of Peter Newgreen (Mariner), Inflammation of the Chest 3 wks certified, Adelaide Templeman in attendance, 61 Trowbridge Street, Liverpool, Joseph Horn Registrar. Certified to be a true copt of an entry in the certified copy of a Register of Deaths in the DIstrict above mentioned. Given at the GRO, London, under the seal of the asaid oFiccer, the 10th day of July 1986." If anyone has access to St. Peter's records I would also like her marriage record in 1810 (maybe in April) to a Peter Newgreen (possibly spelled Nygren); her maiden name was CARR. I believe he or his parents were from Sweden or Norway. BT or parish record source information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Marriage Register 1810. Entry No.148. "Peter NEAGRAM of the Parish of Liverpool, Mariner, and Mary CARR, of the same Parish, Spinster, were married in this church by Banns this twenty- third day of April in the year One thousand, eight hundred and ten, by me, John Pulford, Curate". Peter signed the register Peter NYGREN; Mary made 'her mark'. Their witnesses were Jacob Lohmann and James Taylor - both of whom witnessed various other marriages at the church around that time. [LRO Ref:283PET/3/7 Item3]. Mary was interred in Low Hill Cemetery (the Necropolis). Entry No.32169 in the cemetery's Burial Register for 1845-52 recorded Mary NEWGREEN, aged 65years. Last residence Trowbridge Street, died 9th December 1847, cause of death - 'Old age'. Date of Interment 15th December 1847, grave No.7684. [LRO Ref:352CEM/2/2/3 Item2]. The cemetery's Order Book also confirmed much of the above information with the charge for her burial being ten shilling's. It was a 'public' or 'paupers' grave and on 15th December at 3.00pm, Mary was interred with five others. Within a week, the number had risen to thirty interments in her grave. The cemetery closed in 1898, and although memorial inscriptions were recorded, for grave No.7684 the register simply stated 'No Stone'. [LRO Ref:352CEM/2/1/4 Item2]. There were no obituaries for Mary printed in the Liverpool newspapers that I could find. Apart from a few exceptions, obituaries at that time tended to be placed by the more wealthy or professional acquaintances of the deceased. Mary, I suspect, was less fortunate. Regards, John Hardy.
John, A simple "thank you" doesn't seem to me to be enough to show my appreciation for this information. I believe the importance of this simple phrase is lost sometimes since we see it so frequently on the list, especially from those not living in the UK. Please know that my appreciation for your efforts is heartfelt. It is the time and effort put forth by fellow volunteers that makes researching from abroad a pleasure. I am truly in your debt! Please call on me directly when needed. Best regards, Mike > Mike, > > >From St.Peter's, Church Street, Liverpool.
