The 1911 census for the whole of Ireland is now on line and it's free to search. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ Good Luck Jane
Hi everyone, Has anyone succesfully found a policeman on this census? It looks as though they are all listed just by their initials - great! The same goes for prisoners and lunatics as well..... My grandad was a policeman, so I guess needle and haystack spring to mind.... I know his approximate location (county) from his service records, so I suppose that is a start. My policeman ancestor is a little earlier. Robert MOFFATT is listed as both a constable and a policeman on the 1871 census and on his death certificate of 1872. I have contacted the Merseyside police department and they have no record of his being on their force. Are there any other record sources I could check?
