Hi everyone I'm looking for any information on a John Marshman Ashton b.1845 Westmeath Ireland and his descendants. He married a Susan, surname unknown, and had 6 children Charles Sharp b.1868, William b.1870, Jane b.1872, John 1877-1940, Frances b.1879, Hugh b. 1881. John, Frances and Hugh were born in Lancashire, UK. The younger John married a Charlotte Smith 1876-1969 they had 8 children Florence 1899-1902, Bertha 1901-1972, Gertrude 1903-1985, John(Sonny) b.1905, William John Marshall (Billy) b.1906 Elsie Evelyn 1910-1969, Thomas Eric 1912-1974, Leslie Arthur 1915-1992. All born in Lancashire, UK. If anyone out there can help me fill in some missing pieces or if this is familiar to anyone, please get in contact. I'd be very grateful or any help or leads available. Hi Ruth, there is a Susan ASHTON, 7, daughter, born Liverpool, with the family in the 1891 census. John Ashton must have died between 1891 and 1901 because in the 1901 census Susan senior is widowed and the family are living in Crosby, near Liverpool. Send a request to this list if you do not have copies. A search of the IGI on the Familysearch website finds a probable baptism for Susan in St Peter's Liverpool 18 Sep 1883. However the IGI also gives births in Antrim for William 22 April 1870 and Jane 14 Feb 1872. Mother is named as Susan Sharp(e). They appear to be from films of the Irish GRO and I believe the info should enable you to get the birth certs for these children. Searching the Liverpool Ancestors site at http://liverpool-ancestors.co.uk/ finds the burial for a Hugh Sharpe ASHTON - possibly worth further investigation A search of FreeBMD using *Sharp for the first name and ASHTON for the surname brings up a few results worth investigation. You could order marriage certs or marriages could be cross referenced with searches in http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/cgi/marrind.cgi?county=lancashire which might give you the name of the churches. Hi Ruth, I thought MARSHMAN was an unusual middle name so I did a bit more searching. I went to the Familysearch pilot site http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=home There was an interesting entry for a marriage for Francis Oakes ASHTON. His age fits with the son of John and Susan ASHTON - but have another look at his father's name! Groom's name: Francis Oakes Ashton Groom's age: 29 Bride's name: Ellen Lea Bride's age: 23 Residence: Everton, Lancashire, England Event place: Christ Church-Great Homer Street, Everton, Lancashire, England Event date: 1908 Groom's father's name: John Marshall Ashton Father of bride's name: George Henry Lea Batch number: M15617-4 Record group: England-VR Film number: 1546074 Collection: England Marriages 1700-1900 I then did a bit more searching using *Marshall ASHTON in the search fields and turned up a few more entries on the pilot site, Ancestry and freeBMD, mostly connected to Liverpool. However while on the Familysearch pilot site I also found this marriage entry in the Irish civil registration indexes Name: John Marshall Ashton Registration district: Belfast Record type: MARRIAGES Registration date - quarter and year: 1867 Film number: 101250 Volume: 16 Page: 443 Digital GS number: 4179383 Image number: 00193 Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958 I cross referenced it for Susan Sharp and this result turned up.
