>From the same autobiog. of Nicholas I see the true family name Monsarrat is indeed of French origin going back to 1693 when his 4XGt Grandfather was born, Castres, Nr Toulouse and the next generation were wine growers in the Midi. Montserrat seems to come from a Spanish mountain of that name with a famous C9 monastery, Nr Barcelona. This name was used by Columbus in naming one of the leeward islands in the Carribean.
