Hello David, Just to let you know I did reply to you but I have received a message from the list admin saying my reply post was rejected as it was too big - so I have had edit it as below. Since writing the post below, someone has very kindly sent me a link to order a copy via familysearch which I have done. ================ David Thank you for your advice, but unfortunately because of health reasons, I cannot get out and about. I am in the UK, and I think the Liverpool Records Office has the original registers, as I used the use this records office many years ago when I could get out. So now I use Ancestry to get what I can online. I have ordered other certificates, but can't order this one online - that I know off... and that was partly what I was asking. Re: other information I might find compared with the birth certificate. There has been quite a few occasions when the details given at the baptism is different from the official registered birth and also there are the names of the godparents, which can give other clues to other family members. One one baptism for another family member, the mother gave two names as her maiden name, which led to another story! My grandfather gave various variations on his christian name, and his occupation, so it would be interesting to see what he said at the baptism! I believe this is partly due to when the child is registered, it was often done by the mother alone, so it's down to what she said at the time. Thank you for you advice again - and my email address made you think I was in Canada - I wish.... :)) Regards Linda On 07/04/2014 12:53, David Armstrong wrote: > G'day Linda > > The baptism index on Ancestry gives you the LDS microfilm catalogue number (1545934) which will allow you to order the microfilm of the baptism register into your local LDS (Mormon) family history library in Canada for a nominal sum. G'day Linda The baptism index on Ancestry gives you the LDS microfilm catalogue number (1545934) which will allow you to order the microfilm of the baptism register into your local LDS (Mormon) family history library in Canada for a nominal sum. (Although you didn't give your general location, I'm assuming that unless you're travelling abroad, having a Canadian email address means you're somewhere in Canada, and presumably not on Baffin Island). The only information the baptism register will give you that's not in the index is the "abode" of the family and the father's occupation, information which you should already have on the Birth Certificate which you say you already have. Hello everyone, I have been tracing my family history for sometime, but very often not getting very far! Can someone advise me on how to get this baptism record or can anyone actuall get it for me... please...? Ancestry only have the text information and not the image. It is many years since I was researching in the Liverpool Records Office, but I believe that's were this baptism record will be. Details from Ancestry are: England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975 about William Mclean Name: William Mclean Gender: Male Baptism Date: 26 Jan 1903 Baptism Place: Walton-on-The-Hill, Lancashire, England Father: William Mclean Mother: Mary FHL Film Number: 1545934 Reference ID: 212 I found the baptism, on Ancestry, for my father William McLean. I have only ever had his birth certificate that I got via the GRO index, so was so happy to find this baptism. There has always been mystery about his father - also William - whom died of drowning (believed to be suicide) when my father was only about 3 years old. He had come to England from Canada and I now have found 3 marriages that he had in Liverpool, the last one to my grandmother! Very little is known about him and I am hoping the baptism record might give a clue to find out more about him. Fred, Thank you. Yes, I realised what it was but stil needed to include it in the post, as I was asking if anyone could advise me on if it was possible to order the copy of the baptism online - from somewhere I am not aware of, or if anyone has access to the Liverpool Records office. Ancestry has been a blessing to me, as I can longer visit libraries etc. Done all that for many years using the LDS in Mill Bank, Liverpool! I loved going there! I do normally search across Ancestry, FamilySearch and other free ones - I don't know how I missed his baptism after searching for many years! But this time the info just poped up so I immediatley asked for help on this mailing list. Linda, The record you are showing is not from (IMO expensive) Ancestry, but rather (free) FamilySearch sponsored by the LDS (Mormon) church. The microfilm (#1545934), containing the actual record, may be rented at any local LDS Family History Center or participating library for a nominal fee.
