Eddie, in similar circumstances to yours I asked the local crematorium for help and found that they held ALL the records of both burials and cremations for the area, and they were very helpful indeed.     3. I too tried, without success, to find Alice in the 1911 census, so I see your difficulty! Regarding a grave at Ypres, the only Robert Skelton has no grave, but is remembered on the Menin Gate memorial at Ypres. You can see his details on the Commonwealth War Graves website at http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/916966/SKELTON,%20ROBERT I hope this is the correct person - he was in the Northumberland Fusiliers.
