    1. [ENG-LIV] Holy Cross Church marriage record
    2. Kay Allen
    3. Hello all, I am new to posting on this list.  I just received my first GRO certificate yesterday for the marriage of my ggrandfather/mother which showed the marriage took place at Holy Cross Church on July 20?, 1881.  Does this church still exist?  Where might I obtain the marriage record from this church.  I would like to see if the church record listed more info than the GRO certificate.  Their names were James Cregan and Bridget Mary Manley and they originally came from Ireland and lived in Liverpool until 1890 before coming to USA. Thank you. Kay

    2. Thanks for your response. Nope, not Ohio. It was Liverpool, England. I wonder if the reference to "east" Liverpool was just descriptive. That is, the eastern part of Liverpool. Is there actually a "city" called East Liverpool in England? Ron White In a message dated 7/13/2009 6:43:49 A.M. 3. You might find some information re your Gordon's at the Newfoundland Archives In St Johns. It is called the Rooms, they may be able to help via the internet. Its a pleasure to go there in person to research www.therooms.ca/ Dave D. > I am a new lister hoping someone can help me. 1. [ENG-LIV] New Lister: The GORDONs of East Liverpool to Newfoundland
    2. I am a new lister hoping someone can help me. My GORDON family is first found in Newfoundland with the birth of SAMUEL GORDON there in about 1764. Old family records say the GORDONs were originally from Aberdeen, Scotland and then moved to and settled in East Liverpool for a time. From there, they sailed to Newfoundland. Does anyone know where I might look for records of GORDONs who sailed from (East) Liverpool to Newfoundland in around 1750? Or ship passenger records of ships from Liverpool to Newfoundland in general prior to 1764? Thank you. **************Looking for love this summer? Find it now on AOL Personals. 1. [ENG-LIV] Need help regarding ship manifests on ships from New York City to Liverpool and related information circa 1850 to 1864
    2. Gerald Duffy
    3. I sent an e-mail to the Bury Library on June 8, 2009 and have received no response. Perhaps the Library just doesn't have the time to consider the request. What follows is the content of my e-mail of June 8th to the Bury Library. Could anyone advise me regarding where I mught find answers to any of the 4 questions in my e-mail? G. Duffy (Palos Park, IL; USA) On May 5, 1851 the Barque Industry arrived in New York City from Dublin with the following five ancestors of mine: Michael Duffy, my great grandfather, born around 1806 in Ireland Johanna (Burke) Duffy, his wife, born around 1806 in Ireland Thomas Duffy, my grandfather, born 1840 in Ireland Laurence Duffy, twin brother of Thomas, born 1840 in Ireland Mary Anne Duffy, daughter to Michael and Johanna, born in Ireland in 1837 Sometime between 1851 and 1861 they migrated from New York City to Lancashire. There was a very bad year (1857) in America (especially New York City) so they may have left NYC for Lancashire or Ireland and then Lancashire around then. First question: Do you have records of passenger lists for ships from New York to Liverpool for the period 1851 through 1861? If so, could you see if Michael and his family are on one of those lists? In the 1861 census I found my Duffy family at 10 Daisy Field in the sub-registration district of Elton, the registration district of Bury, the civil parish of Elton and ecclesiastic parish of Lancashire, England. The family was listed as follows: Michael Duffy, age 51, schoolmaster, born Ireland Judith Duffy, age 50, wife, born Ireland Thomas Duffy, age 21, son, factory operations, born Ireland Laurence Duffy, age 21, son, factory operations, born Ireland Mary Duffy, age 39, sister, factory operations, born Ireland Elizabeth Loghlan, age 27, lodger, factory operations, born Ireland In the Irish language Judith and Johanna are the same. All birth years in this census were either identical to our family Bible records or very close to them. Mary Ann Duffy, the older sister of Thomas and Laurence, born in 1837, was found living as a servant in the home of the family of James Margesson in Liverpool, England, only a few miles to the South of Lancashire. The only Duffy still missing from this latest research was Susan, another sibling of Michael and Mary, born sometime around 1810 to 1818 probably in Ireland. The Duffys probably came back to the British Isles to get work in an area around Liverpool. Second question: Michael Duffy was listed in the 1861 census as a "schoolmaster". Can your records tell me where he might have been employed as a "school master"? And what his salary may have been? On March 21, 1864 Michael and his family arrived on the ship James Foster, Jr. from Liverpool to New York City again. Third question: Do you have directories that might tell us where he lived in Lancashire or nearby between 1851 and 1864? The parents of Michael Duffy, Susan Duffy and Mary Duffy were Thomas and Anne Duffy. Michael and his family may have come to Liverpool to visit his very old parents. Michael also had a brother Thomas who died at age 12. Fourth Question: Do you have any records that might tell us where in Ireland Michael was born? If he was a school master in 1861, would some school records tell us where he was born and on what date? He married Johanna Burke on 17 Jan 1835 in Templemore, Tipperary, Ireland. I would appreciate any input you can give me. And I can pay for more research if that is necessary. Gerald J. Duffy 12411 Southwest Hwy. Palos Park, IL 60464-1850 USA E-mail: geraldjduffy@ieee.org
