Hi, I'm making another stab at my brick wall. James WHITE born 1820s in Ireland - possibly Wicklow - went to Liverpool after 1848. In 1879 at the time of his daughter Annie White's marriage in Liverpool he is given as a Teacher in Everton. I don't know the wife's name, or any siblings for Annie who was born c1847 in Wicklow(1871 census). I've never found the family in 1861 and I've never found a matching James in Liverpool in1871. Annie by 1871 is married to a seaman and lodging with a seaman and his wife. Maybe James passed away before 1871? This a longstanding puzzle. Any help please, Joan Ottawa
Would someone be willing to visit Liverpool Central Library and enquire whether they have a photograph of Red Cross Street or George Court off that street c. 1860 ? Thank you. Ron Chapman

Margaret, I have no idea whether or not there are accessible studies on Liverpool dock workers and companies. But I'd guess there have to be records of the old Mersey Docks and Harbour Board somewhere. The Maritime Museum? As I said in an earlier post I am so long gone from the Merseyside shipping scene I can no longer recall if there was, or was not, an association of stevedores and master porterage companies. Not telling Grannie how to suck eggs so apologies if you already know that stevedores load and discharge ships while master porters stow etc. the cargo from under the hook to the warehouse. Hello Listers, I'm hoping SKS with Findmypast, will do a look-up for me. I have the following details for 1891 census of a Jane Slater age 13, estimated year of birth 1878, relationship to head, Daur. Occupation general servant. Address 23 court 5 house Upper Frederick Street. District St Thomas Liverpool. Administrative County, Lancashire. Birth Place Liverpool. I can't find Jane on Ancestry, so hoping that these details have come from FMP. What I need to know, is the names of parents, occupation etc, and any other persons in that household. Many thanks in advance. Jean District St Thomas, Liverpool Parish Administrative County Lancashire Birth Place Liverpool Birth County
