Thank you Sally, I while ago I took copies of some 1841 census pages looking for Thomas Hughes who married in 1843, one of them is of Ford Street, Thomas is only 15 at that time which makes him a bit young to get married 2 years later, but, there is a connection with Ford Street. I am not sure where Alice fits in though. Thank you once again for looking. Best Wishes Hilary. ----- Original Message ----- From: "sally roberts" <sallyroberts55@hotmail.com> To: "englanliverpool" <eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 27, 2009 12:32 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] An 1841 Request Please > > Hi Hilary, > > Sadly, with such vague information, I'm not sure the following summaries > will be of any help. > > The potential of mis-spelling Davis for Davies is obvious and Liverpool > was (and is) a large, well poplulated city. I have been reading, with interest, the articles about cycling. I belonged to a club in about 1947/9, can't remember the name but, we had a place in the Wirral that we camped at on the Friday or Saturday nights and took off?the next?morning into Wales. Stopped at all the places mentioned in previous emails. And, yes we also cycled through the Mersey Tunnel, pedaled as fast as we could trying to beat the people who had taken the ferry across to Birkenhead. Unfortunately that all came to an end one day when I received a letter from "His Majesty's Service" and spent the next two years in Catterick Camp, Royal Signals. After that went to work for British Callenders Construction Co in Prescott and ultimately ended up in America but, I'm still a "Scouse" and always will be even though I'm now 79 years old with many, many happy memories of those days. Hi, Can someone tell me where Dale St. was ? Was it near Everton? Thanks, Joan
Hi Hilary, Sadly, with such vague information, I'm not sure the following summaries will be of any help. The potential of mis-spelling Davis for Davies is obvious and Liverpool was (and is) a large, well poplulated city. However, here's what's there with the little details that you have.... Name: Joseph Davies Age: 30 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1811 Gender: Male Where born: Lancashire, England Civil parish: Liverpool Hundred: West Derby Street Address: Portland Street Occupation: Boiler Maker Joseph Davies 30 Ann Davies 30 OR Name: Joseph Davies Age: 25 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1816 Gender: Male Where born: Lancashire, England Civil parish: Liverpool Hundred: Liverpool Street Address: Ford Street Occupation: Carter Joseph Davies 25 Ann Davies 30 Margret Davies 12 Elizabeth Davies 8 OR Name: Joseph Davies Age: 20 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1821 Gender: Male Where born: Lancashire, England Civil parish: Liverpool Hundred: Liverpool Street Address: Robinson Street Occupation: Cowkeeper (Joseph snr - Jospeh jr no occupation shown) Joseph Davies 50 Allice Davies 45 Joseph Davies 20 Ann Davies 10 Catherine Davies 10 Allis Davies 8 Margaret Davies 6 John Davies 4 OR THIS ENTRY WHICH APPEARS TO BE THE SAME AS THE ABOVE FAMILY - THE ORIGINAL ENTRIES ON THIS PAGE ARE SCRIBBLED OVER.... Thank you very much to Martin and David for finding C W Rock and possibly on his daughter on the passenger lists. Charles Rock settled in Mauritius and raised a family there. He appears to have come back and forth quite a bit! Thanks again, Diane _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live Messenger: Celebrate 10 amazing years with free winks and emoticons. http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/157562755/direct/01/

Ron, If you contact Liverpool Central Library by email and ask they will usually (or did) do one free search for you. You will have an answer then by email and they might send the item. Hope it helps Anne --- On Sun, 26/7/09, beryl burgess <bezb1@bigpond.com> wrote: From: beryl burgess <bezb1@bigpond.com> Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] Central Library enquiry To: eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, 26 July, 2009, 7:47 AM Which district of Liverpool are you interested in Ron? I am trying to find a family connection of a Hall LAING (who married Jane GUTHERY (various spellings)), as I suspect that Hall may be related to the LAING shipbuilding families as below: In the1824 Baines Liverpool Name Directory, were the following two entries: Laing John & Philip & Co. ship builders & smiths, 2, Gower st. Laing Philip, ship builder, &c.; 4, South Hunter street In the 1825 Liverpool Street Directory with Residents, were the following entries: GOWER STREET, 1, Cornhill. No 2 - Laing J. & P. and Co. HUNTER ST. South. 2, Hardman street. No 4 - Laing Philip Is anyone researching these shipbuilders, who might be able to assist me? TIA Edward R Paxton
I would like to thank all, who have tried to help me find information of Jane. Fingers crossed she will be found one day. Best regards Jean
