    3. G'day Sally, In a busy city centre church, there could be quite a number of baptisms every day, performed on a production line basis. What the comment "Run Away" means is that after the baptism ceremony, the parents didn't hang around in line waiting for the clerk to record the full details in the register. Regards David Armstrong Maylands, Western Australia ----- Original Message ----- From: sally roberts To: eng-todmorden@rootsweb.com ; eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com ; eng-lan-wigan@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, July 29, 2009 4:29 AM Subject: [ENG-LIV] Comment in Baptismal Records - Help needed Hello everyone, Firstly, apologies for any duplicates of this you get if you're subscribed to more than one mailing list - but I didn't want to miss anyone who may have the answer to this :o) Secondly, the actual question... A friend of mine is currently searching through archives in London and believes he's found his greatx4 grandfather's baptismal entry. The trouble is, there's simply the date of the baptism (19th July 1818), the name of the person being baptised, no parental details, no age or anything else is recorded except the phrase which appears to say Run Away. Given that his Greatx4 grandfather should have been less than a year old at this time, I can't really see that it meant he scarpered from the church :o) This chap's marriage certificate in 1835 gives the name of his father and his occupation, which matches with a couple who are noted as having 3 other children in the area between 1818 - 1823, so we are tentatively hopeful that the entry with no details is still linked to the family. Can anyone shed any light on this? Does it simply mean the family took the child and left the church without any baptism? Regards, Sally

Joan, hi. well its a bit further away from Everton than someone suggested. it is in fact almost down near the Pier Head which is the port section of Liverpool, and its the road that goes direct down through the city to the docks, if that is of any help to you. Its not housing area moe like business area shops offices etc and of course the public houses, and it used to be the main part of the shipping industry, offices of the ship owners and of course lots of legal solicitors offices. 3. Hi Joan The other Dale St Wes refers to is in Garston which is to the south of Liverpool City Centre whereas Everton is about 2 kms to the north east. Perhaps you could expand on your query as whilst Dale St in the Liverpool City centre and Everton are about 2 kms apart they are certainly close enough for people to be in contact or to move to and from. 2. David Armstrong
    3. Hilary, The rules for the 1841 Census were that adult ages were to be rounded DOWN to the five years, and only those under the age of 15 had to have their ages recorded to the nearest year. Thus someone whose age on the 1841 census is given as 15, is actually aged from 15 to 19 years old if the rules were followed. Also it sounds as if you haven't actually got the 1843 marriage certificate which would give Thomas' age, even if it's only stated as of "Full Age", ie 21 years or over. I am not sure where Alice fits in though. Thank you once again for looking. Best Wishes Hilary.

    3. Thanks David I do have Thomas's Marriage certificate and it does say he is full age, but did they always tell the truth?, his bride was baptised in 1825, so his age would match hers if he was aged between 15 and 19 in 1841. Best Wishes Hilary. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Armstrong" <davidrli@iinet.net.au> To: <eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 27, 2009 4:10 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] An 1841 Request Please > Hilary, > > The rules for the 1841 Census were that adult ages were to be rounded DOWN > to the five years, and only those under the age of 15 had to have their > ages recorded to the nearest year. > > Thus someone whose age on the 1841 census is given as 15, is actually aged > from 15 to 19 years old if the rules were followed. > > Also it sounds as if you haven't actually got the 1843 marriage > certificate which would give Thomas' age, even if it's only stated as of > "Full Age", ie 21 years or over. > > Regards > > David Armstrong > Maylands, > Western Australia > ----- Original Message ----- > From: HILARY RIMMER > To: eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com > Sent: Monday, July 27, 2009 10:57 PM > Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] An 1841 Request Please > > > Thank you Sally, > I while ago I took copies of some 1841 census pages looking for Thomas > Hughes who married in 1843, one of them is of Ford Street, Thomas is > only > 15 at that time which makes him a bit young to get married 2 years > later, but, there is a connection with Ford Street. > I am not sure where Alice fits in though. > Thank you once again for looking. > Best Wishes > Hilary. > ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ > > Admin Message - List guidelines: > http://freespace.virgin.net/genealogical.collections/AdminMessage.htm > > The list admin can be contacted at > Eng-Liverpool-admin@rootsweb.com > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ENG-LIVERPOOL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message
