I have encountered similar experiences. I have tried to contact owners of "Personal" trees on half a dozen times and not received any replies. This has raised the same thoughts as yourself Rhonda as well as thinking What's the point of going to the effort to create a "Personal" tree that is kept private. Do I smell a rat ? Is there skullduggery afoot ? Dave D. > Hello Sue, > > I have had the same problem, I may be wrong however, I feel it is Ancestry > randomly matching people. Hello Listers While things have been a bit quiet I decided to spend some time on Ancestry.co.uk and see who else was researching my family names and looked at their public trees. I can't believe the number of people who have my grandparents, and some great grandparents who have absolutely nothing to do with them on their tree! I've found 5 in a few days. Why would you put someone in your tree when you don't have some real proof they are your family? It just made me so cross. rant over Sue _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live Messenger: Celebrate 10 amazing years with free winks and emoticons. http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/157562755/direct/01/
Hi all, I came across the following site today. I found the marriage index pages very useful but the site contains lots of useful links many of which I have never come across before. It appears to be quite recently updated and I can't remember seeing details being posted on the list. http://www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co.uk/index.htm regards Kathy Wirral
I have a newspaper article on the KIRKDALE EASTER SESSIONS, 1830. It describes the Rev. J. Brooks presiding or as being "in the chair". Does anyone happen to be researching the BROOKS family which includes this Rev.? Does Presiding or being in the chair mean this man was the judge? There's also a line in my guy's petition to the King that he was convicted by a "jury of his country". does anyone know the size of a jury at the quarter sessions ... would it be 12? Thanks for any help/suggestions/recommended reading. Janet in California

G'day, To the Aussies on the list: SBS have started advertising as "coming soon" a new Australian series of "Who do you think you are?" Given it's previous time slot, I suspect that it will be starting at the end of the current Ashes series that SBS is broadcasting, ie within a fortnight or so. I have pasted the British Gov. response to the petition mentioned below. Dave D. "Thank you for your e-petition which calls on the Government to provide full and open access to the registers of birth, marriage and death between 1837 and 1908. The Government understands that many family researchers want to have full and open access to the information in historic birth, death and marriage registers and accepts that the current legislation is overly restrictive with these records. Under current legislation - the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953 and the Marriage Act 1949 - access to the information in birth, death and marriage registers is only possible by means of a certified copy (certificate) of a particular entry, when that entry has been identified from the index and the statutory fee paid. There are other pieces of legislation which allow for the release of information in birth, death and marriage registers for specific purposes, e.g. statistical data, but there is no power to provide full and open public access. The Government proposed in 2003 a wide-ranging set of reforms to the civil registration service in England and Wales. These proposals included an intention to digitise all the records with historic records being accessible to view on a database, possibly with a small charge, but without the need to purchase a certificate. It did not prove possible to introduce the necessary legislation by a Regulatory Reform Order as we had intended and there has not been a suitable opportunity to legislate since then. Nevertheless, we remain committed to modernising the way in which these records can be accessed and the Registrar General keeps this under active review."

Hi List, I thought tonight's program was the best one yet; Kim Catrell was very caring . Sharon.
Hi Sharon, I think we are connected! My grandmothers were the oldest and youngest daughters of Elizabeth Ann HARRISON nee BARTON. Elizabeth was the daughter of George BARTON and Elizabeth BIBBY. In 1851 George and Elizabeth are living at Mossborough Road Rainford with their children Mary, James, John, Jane and Elizabeth's unmarried brother Peter. By 1861 they are at Almonds Green with just John at home from the children on the 1851 but with younger children Richard and Elizabeth Ann aged 3 Elizabeth Bibby was one of the many children of John (Jonathan) BIBBY and Mary and she was born at Windle in 1820. Hi All, I have just found where our BIBBY family came from so hoping to find someone with a connection. Jane BIBBY born 1879 was the daughter of Henry BIBBY & Margaret KNOWLES who married in 1858 at St Mary the Virgin, Prescot. According to the marriage record Henry Bibby's father's name was John BIBBY & Margaret's father was James KNOWLES. I have had some success with the OPR records on line, which I think are marvelous & also census records. The BIBBY family lived for many years at Moss Lane, Windle. Sharon Perth, Western Australia.
