Hi Claire Thank you so much for all that fabulous info on the Sessford family - amazing! I'm beginning to think they were elsewhere in the 1891. I expect they'll turn up sooner or later. best wishes Liz

I wonder if this is a variant of the name CESSFORD? There is a castle and small settlement of that name in southern Scotland. Hello list First, thanks to joining the list I've got further with my research in the last week than in the previous three years! So thanks to all those knowledgeable and resourceful researchers out there for sharing. Secondly, I have failed to find any info on my grandfather, John Lewis (b.1875, married Annie Boyce 1899) who hanged himself in about 1932. I can't find a death certificate or any other information. I know he was a docker on Liverpool Docks, and in the Dock battalion of the Liverpool Regiment in 1915. Any bright ideas on investigating suicides in Liverpool about 1932? Thanks Marion, East Sussex
Hi Marion, I must have missed your original message about a John LEWIS who was born in 1875. If I had seen it, I would have responded. Or, perhaps I did, and I have forgotten. My gr-gr-grandfather was a John LEWIS, but born in the 1830's in Liverpool. In the 1850's he married Isabella BURROWS in Liverpool. As far as I know, they only had one child, John "Stanley" LEWIS, born Dec. 1859 in Liverpool. (There is more information in archives of this List.) John had 2 older sisters which I know very little about. He had 3 brothers, I think, and they all worked as "Clerks" - so they all were educated. From memory, 3 worked in attorney's offices (US term), and one worked at a Dock office. There is some information on the families of the brothers in the archives of the List. I don't recall whether any of the brothers had a son, John, b1875. I've been told that LEWIS is a very popular name in Liverpool and surrounding areas, so it's possible my John LEWIS had no connection to your John LEWIS. But, what surprises me is that I very rarely see a query about the name. Good morning list I've joined this list to try and help a friend of mine who is keen to learn more of her fathers family. The earliest information I have of them is in the 1881 census living at 46 Cherry Lane, Walton-on-the-Hill. The family at the time is as follows: Mary SESSFORD, head, married, aged 33, born Carlisle, Cumberland, wife of Marine Engineer Isaac SESSFORD, son, aged 10, born Ireland, Scholar James SESSFORD, son, aged 6, born Liverpool, Scholar Agnes J SESSFORD, daughter, aged 4, born Liverpool Thomasine SESSFORD, daughter, aged 7 months, born Liverpool I believe Mary may have been Mary Ann Routledge who married Thomas SESSFORD in the Jun qtr of 1870 in the registration district of Liverpool GRO ref no: Vol. 8b Page 230. I've also found the birth registration details for the 3 youngest children as well as another child - Edmund Routldge SESSFORD who was born and died in the Sept qtr of 1873 in Liverpool. This birth seems to confirm Mary's marriage to Thomas above. I have a death registration for a Mary SESSFORD, aged 41, in the Mar qtr of 1892 in the registration distration district of West Derby. I believe all the other children went onto marry and have families of their own. So I'm assuming that Mary and at least the 2 youngest children were living together in the area in 1891 but I haven't been able to find out anything to date. I would be really grateful if someone is able to locate them for me. many thanks Liz Stilwell
Bill, I am not aware of anyone mentioning a Trevor Furlong in my husband's family, but I will ask my mother in law when I next see her. Best wishes Lorraine

Hi folks, Prior to this thread, I happened to be on Ancestry, and thought I'd give a quick check on their trees. I found my father, born 1925, West Derby, Liverpool, and thought, great, some connection!! Then I saw that they thought he'd died in Chile!!! He didn't, I was there! A few more checks through their tree was horrible, loads of mistakes. I know that more recent research is pricey, and more difficult, but this seemed to be, the 'name's the same' so it's mine. Aargh!! Check out Ancestry, folks, it's frightening for us who've been genuinely been researching for years, and especially so when you were there at the event:-(( Kind regards, Yvonne
