    3. Hi, Gill. >From the Liverpool Record Office Catalogue: To give further consideration to this matter a "Public Meeting of the Catholics of the Liverpool Diocese" was held on 5 Aug. 1856, in the Queen's Hall, Bold Street. The outcome of this meeting was that a fund to finance the provision of reformatory accommodation for Liverpool's young Catholic offenders was set up and a committee appointed to administer it. No steps were taken to build a reformatory school in the Diocese but loans and contributions were made to the Cistercian Abbey of Mount St. Bernard, Loughborough, Leicestershire, to which Liverpool's Catholic boy offenders were sent. Girls were sent to the care of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd at Arnos Court, Bristol. They have records from 1854 onwards: Rolls of Juvenile Offenders and related registers, 7 vols., 7 docs., 1854-1860, 1890-1945 There is also a Register of Juvenile Offenders committed to Reformatories by Magistrates of the Borough of Liverpool under the Act 17 & 18 Vic., cap. 86, but that only goes up to 1860. 3. Rosemary, A 1906 Ordnance Survey map of Toxteth shows a Penrith Street running between Emerson Street and Avison Street. 3. John, do you happen to know just where in Mount Vernon the reform school was situated. I ask because I grew up in Edge Hill. My grandfather married my grandmother at St. Mary's church in 1904 and the marriage certificate shows him living at #3 Back Mount Vernon Green and Grandma living at #1 Irvine Street (a still exisiting pub - Mount Vernon Hotel). (I never knew my Grandpa to take a drink stronger than sarsasparilla). I had family living in Albany Road that abuts Mount Vernon Green; I recall the Lybro factory but that's it. As far as schools for naughty kids were concerned my Dad often threatened he'd send me to "Queenie Street where they pin your ears back" - that was Queensland Street Industrial school near Overton Street. 3. Hello all, A few weeks ago I was very fortunate to finally find my Gran's sister that I had been searching for for over 5 years. Now I am looking for one of her grandsons that could very well be alive & still living in Liverpool. This is where I really could use your help as I live in Canada which makes this search almost impossible. I am looking for a Clifford H. Jackson born in June of 1936 in Liverpool. He is the son on Henry G. Jackson & Margaret Elizabeth Cottrell. I would really like to correspond with Clifford & to find out more about my Gran's sister . Clifford married a Thelma Manvile in March of 1956 in Liverpool. Hopefully they are still living in Liverpool today. I realize that there could be a lot with the same name in the white pages of your phone directory but I'm also hoping one listing will show Clifford H. Jackson. I would really appreciate your help with finding the right Clifford and his address so I can get a letter off to him.. Hoping to hear back and I thank you in advance. You are welcome to write to me on or off list . Regards Margie in Ontario Canada bmpage@sympatico.ca
