    1. [ENG-LIV] Records Office visit?
    2. Mike Kendall
    3. I'm sure some of the kind listers here have visited the Records Office and are familiar with their procedures. I believe you make an appt and book/pay for time on their computers, but do they charge you for making actual copies of entries, say of parish registers? I've e-mailed an LRO form to their office requesting a parish record entry be e-mailed to me with the understanding from their e-mail the first request would be free since I had a specific source/date and it would take less than 15 minutes to accomplish. With my continued research in Lancashire, specifically Liverpool, I hope to have multiple requests that could be fulfilled during one visit (at your leisure) in the future once I have further details. Interested parties can contact me off list please. With sincere appreciation to the list for all your help, Mike _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live: Keep your friends up to date with what you do online. http://windowslive.com/Campaign/SocialNetworking?ocid=PID23285::T:WLMTAGL:ON:WL:en-US:SI_SB_online:082009

    1. [ENG-LIV] Hughes, Barrett, McGowan
    2. Searching for the Hughes family, originally from Ireland, (either County Mayo or County Sligo) living in Liverpool from the 1830/40's until ??. Michael was the son of Denis and Margaret Hughes; he married Catherine Barrett at St. Peter's R.C. Chapel, Seel St., Liverpool, in 1842. Their children were: Thomas, Dennis, Margaret, Patrick and Ellen. Dennis (my great-grandfather) left England between 1861 and 1870. In the UK Census of 1861, he is listed with his mother (a widow) in Liverpool and, in the US Census of 1870, he is living in Duryea, Pennsylvania, USA, with a family whose last name is McGowan. Michael Hughes' sister and Dennis' aunt Esther married John McGowan in 1843; they were married in St. Mary's R.C. Chapel, Edmund St., Liverpool. If any of the above information sounds familiar, please contact me. I'd be so happy to hear from you. Iva **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! 3. Hello again List! I'm looking for an obit for Mary Newgreen who died 9 Dec 1847 of 29 Trowbridge Street Liverpool. Any idea where she could have been buried? A copy of her death cert states: "DEATH in the Sub-district of Mount Pleasant in the County of Lancaster. #433, 9 Dec 1847, 29 Trowbridge Street, Liverpool, female, 65 years, Widow of Peter Newgreen (Mariner), Inflammation of the Chest 3 wks certified, Adelaide Templeman in attendance, 61 Trowbridge Street, Liverpool, Joseph Horn Registrar. Certified to be a true copt of an entry in the certified copy of a Register of Deaths in the DIstrict above mentioned. Given at the GRO, London, under the seal of the asaid oFiccer, the 10th day of July 1986." If anyone has access to St. Peter's records I would also like her marriage record in 1810 (maybe in April) to a Peter Newgreen (possibly spelled Nygren); her maiden name was CARR. I believe he or his parents were from Sweden or Norway. BT or parish record source information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 3. Hi Joan, Thank you for responding. I had checked census information before. I just checked the archives of this List and I had summarized my findings on this List in 2004. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/eng-liverpool/2004-10/1099132631 And, I received more census information over the weekend from a helpful researcher. Henry and Harriet LEWIS seem to be the couple who remained in census records the longest, up to 1901. And they seem to have lived long lives. And they had his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth LEWIS, living with them in 1871 as a widow. We're thinking it might be the death record for a Richard LEWIS in 1868 as her husband. And, Elizabeth wasn't with them in 1881, and there are 3 possible deaths for her between 1871 and 1876. I offered a summary of my 2004 posting just now on the LANCSGEN List. William and Sarah LEWIS (oldest son) were in the 1881 census, and they seem to have had 8 or 9 children, with about 5 daughters. So, their oldest daughters could have been married and having children in the 1890's. And, the youngest son, Richard LEWIS, was married and having children in 1881. In 2004, I don't think I got much beyond the 1881 census. But, the researcher this weekend had Henry and Harriet LEWIS still in Toxteth Park in 1911 (possibly both dying in 1926?). (And they are there in 1891) Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joan Armistead" <mominatornana@gmail.com> To: <eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2009 9:28 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] Richard LEWIS, b~1805, Marriage? 1. [ENG-LIV] Richard, Elizabeth LEWIS Children, 1820's-1850
    2. Betty
    3. Hi again, I just checked an old posting of mine and was reminded that Richard and Elizabeth (TROUGHTON) LEWIS were still having children in Liverpool up to ~1848. The last child I know about was son, Richard LEWIS, b~1848. So, the parents would have been still alive up to 1848. (That is from 1851 census.) (OOPS .. They would have been still alive for the 1851 census.) :o) >From the 1841 census people have told me about, I found out that the parents had 2 children in ~1827 and ~1828. They were Ann LEWIS and Sarah LEWIS. I just checked the FreeBMD site and there were about 70 marriages for an Ann LEWIS between ~1848 and through 1860's in Liverpool or West Derby. And there were about 18 marriages for a Sarah LEWIS in the same time period. So, as I've said before, Richard and Elizabeth would have been married ~1825, probably in Liverpool. (I've asked about a marriage in Cheshire, England, and researchers don't think they were married there.) I checked the archives again and someone had told me that my gr-gr-grandfather, John LEWIS, and his wife were living in Liverpool in the 1861 census. And, his brother, William LEWIS, and his wife, were living right beside them (West Derby). But, I don't remember whether anyone has found their parents, Richard and Elizabeth LEWIS, in the 1861 census. They would have been ~55 and ~50 in 1861. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)

    1. [ENG-LIV] Richard LEWIS, b~1805, Marriage? Death?
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I haven't posted a query about my LEWIS ancestors in a little while. But, I've visited the web site for the Shropshire Family History Society this morning, and was reminded that I've never tried to find out when my ancestor, Richard LEWIS, died. I just checked the FreeBMD site and did a search for that, and 35 Richard LEWIS deaths were in Liverpool or West Derby between 1837 and the 1860's. Only a few of them listed an age, and they were not the age of my Richard. He was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, between 1803 and 1805. And, he was having children in Liverpool through the 1830's. So, his death would have been from the 1840's to the1870's. And, I also don't know about the marriage of Richard LEWIS and Elizabeth TROUGHTON. She came from Heswall, Cheshire, but my "hunch" is that they married in Liverpool. I say that because it seems that all of their 7 children were born in Liverpool. And, I don't know when Elizabeth died. Since I just found out about their first 2 children a year or two ago, I have not tried to find birth records for those 2 daughtes, Ann and Sarah LEWIS. I will have to check my notes, but I think they were born during the 1820's. I've been posting queries about my LEWIS ancestors and their family for at least 5 years, so there is a lot of information in the archives of the List. Several years ago I did pay to get the birth cetificate of their grandson, John "Stanley" LEWIS, born Dec. 1859 Liverpool. That is how I found out the correct name of his mother. His father was John LEWIS, one of 4 surviving sons of Richard and Elizabeth. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA)
