    1. [ENG-LIV] Mary YEARDSLEY - born c 1801
    2. Duncan Smith
    3. Carolyn, I now see the Mary you are talking about in 1851. Because you didn't mention where she was in 1851 in your original message I latched onto another person, who was born Bebington, The only problem remaining though, is if in 1851 she says born Liverpool, then why on the 1841 census does she say she was not born in county? I am assuming that it is her (aged 40) living with husband John IVESTER (35, Sailmaker) and 4 children, plus an Esther IVESTER (72) who could be John's mother I suppose. I only point this out so that you don't limit your searches to just Lancashire if, in fact, it turns out that the 1841 census is more accurate about her birthplace than the 1851 appears to be. 1. [ENG-LIV] Mary YEARDSLEY - born c 1801
    2. Duncan Smith
    3. Carolyn, Your message requesting help with finding the above person's baptism did perhaps leave a few things unsaid. Like the fact that although she married a John Isbister / IVESTER c 1827 and lived in Liverpool, according to the 1851 census (if I have correctly found her living in the West Derby Union Workhouse, aged 49 & widowed) she was born in Bebington, Cheshire. You also said that she died in June 1858 yet I could only see reference to a death of a Mary IVESTER in Sep 1858 Liverpool. Given her likely birthplace, would it perhaps be a good idea to contact the Cheshire list and the Cheshire Record Office? Perhaps you will be lucky enough to find both a baptism and a marriage at St Andrew's Bebington or around that area. Duncan, Dundee

    3. First, You are right about Mary being the wife of John Ivester, aka isbister aka Isbester.. I did look at the Cheshire records and did find a Mary Yeardsley born in 1802 - also a marriage record for her to a John Price.. different John! Incidentally, I found that her son George, my gg grand father, did marry a Cheshire girl on the Bedington records site! (His second wife after my gggrandmother died) I have narrowed my search to Liverpool and you have shown me that it pays to to look further. Thanks for your help. i wish I could find her parents though! Carolyn At 03:39 PM 9/10/2009, you wrote: >Carolyn, > > I now see the Mary you are talking about in 1851. 3. Hello Duncan, thank you for taking an interest in Mary Yeardsley Ivester, my ggg. grandmother. I am holding her death certificate in my hand that states that she died on 19 June 1858; however, the death was recorded on 1 July 1858, which may account for it appearing in the Sept. Quarter. As to her birth place. this was new to me - Shame on me!! I had relied upon the 1841 census inforamtion for my "facts." I will certainly look into the records of Cheshire! Thank you so much.. 3. Carolyn, There is no such thing as a "British" accent :-) My husband and I come from opposite ends of England, but both would pronounce the "H" in Homer. Whether or not the "H" is pronounced is very much a regional thing, and perhaps even educational. I can remember my mother getting very cross with my brothers when they dropped the "H" in imitation of their peers at school in Wigan. But I think it is true to say that it might have been dropped in parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire. 3. Hello List, As an old/new member ( I used to subscribe a few years ago, and recently picked up my research bug and am on the trail again.) I have a question that I would like to ask you, is it possible that there might be "church" or "local city charity" organizations that have lists from the early 1900's that would list families who needed help? Also would these lists be available to the public? My reason for asking is that my Gt Grandparents John LANGFORD and Mary Jane BURNS (they were never married) and their two children James Langford b.1898 and Maryjane Langford b.1899 and Susannah Langford b.1902, cannot be found on the 1911 census, also, going back to the 1901 census, John and Mary Jane and 2 oldest children cannot be found on the 1901 census either. I have found through family stories etc, that they did not have much, if this is so, I would have found them living in the workhouse, which they were'nt, it is quite a mystery. Has anyone on this list ever had a similar situation, and if so how did you handle it? Sorry to make my first letter to the list a puzzler, but I thought someone might have an idea of how to tackle this puzzle, any advice would be helpful. Thanks for reading such a long and wordy letter Sue Button Ont. Canada
