I had a quick look at this and the children and marriage are all registered as Prescot births (though I am not sure that a birth for May is), so a search for births and deaths at Prescot reveals only two other births during the period suggested. Hannah Maria McTigue in Sept Qtr 1879 and Walter McTigue McTigue in Dec Qtr 1881. The only possible death is for Mary McTigue in Dec Qtr 1879. I couldn't find your family in the 1881 census, which makes me wonder if they could have had children somewhere else - such as Ireland? Not much help I'm afraid. Tomas Christie. My greatgrandmother's brother James McTigue and his wife Mary Killian had at least 3 children between their marriage in Woolton in January 1878 and their departure for America in June 1884--Martin about 1879, Catherine about 1881, and May about 1883 (ages on ship manifest differ slightly from dates on lancashirebmd site). In 1900 in Chicago Mary said she was the mother of 5 children born alive, 3 still living, but I can find no births to her in Chicago. I suspect Mary had 2 children who died in infancy, before their deaths were registered, but may well have had them baptized. St. Mary's of Woolton records don't seem to have been filmed or transcribed. I'd be very grateful if someone with access to them could look for children of James and Mary among the baptisms for 1878-84. Diane in Illinois ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The lancashirebmd site shows 6 McTigue births in Much Woolton: Martin and Owen in 1878, Hannah in 1879, Catherine in 1880, Walter in 1881, and May Ann in 1882. I know Martin, Catherine, and May Ann are children of James and Mary, Walter is not, and Owen and Hannah are doubtful. I also know Mary's sisters married at St. Mary, Woolton. I'm asking for a check of baptismal records because I think some children may have been baptised but not registered. Diane in Illinois

Greetings Listers, My paternal grandfather William HEATH died in Feb, 1920 and the family home 20 Peel Street was almost empty by the 1911 Census. My father Frank, born 30 July 1894.was only 17 years old but is not there on Census day, 2nd April 1911.. I would be very grateful if he can be found living with one of the family in 1911, possibly a married sister, named PEACHEY or JARVIS both almost certainly in the area, but possibly in the Wirral. Hi John, My great-grandparents left Liverpool ~1875 but they left because they were labeled "Child Migrants." They were Age 14, but my great-grandmother's youngest siblings going with her were Ages 5 and 3. (All going to different families in Nova Scotia.) I have been learning about these children for 7 years. In Canada, they are known as "British Home Children." Because of my research, I have learned that people in Liverpool were leaving the country - by the thousands -- and heading out in many different directions. The "Child Migrants" were "shipped out" -- to wherever there was a "British Colony" or into Canada, or even some to the U.S. (Even in the 1600's.) So, people in Liverpool could have sailed out to Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Africa, the Mediterranean, etc. When my great-grandfather left Liverpool in 1874, he left many LEWIS cousins, and uncles, aunts, etc. And, after 7 years on-line, I've never found anyone else researching them. So, I've always been curious whether some of the cousins moved to Australia, or other places, even North America. I have a Liverpool family in my relatives who completely disappear without trace after he 1901 Census. I am wondering if the family emigrated. Such research would be a new field for me and I would welcome any advice to help me begin. I have no idea which country may have provided a new home but I thought of starting with the USA. John
John, Try: http://stevemorse.org/ellis2/ellis.html This is a better way to go on the Ellis Island site for emigration to NY (this period is 1896-1924). His tools are much better than Ellis Island provides. Hi Bill I've got one like this :o) It's worth trying to search with just initials as not all patients/inmates of institutions are recorded with full names. I've found 2 out of the three missing ancestors this way, but one still eludes me :o) Hope that helps, Regards, Sally > Date: Tue, 13 Oct 2009 15:38:49 -0400 > From: ryewdj@gmail.com > To: eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com > Subject: [ENG-LIV] 1901 census return for John Jones. > > Hi listers, > > Boy do I need help! Hi listers, Boy do I need help! John Jones, my great grandfather lived at Travers St. Liverpool certainly in 1881 and 1891. In the 1901 census, his wife Sarah is given as Head, Married, and aged 57, and the daughter Mary Elizabeth (28) is with her at 41, Bostock St., Bootle. The 1911 lists Sarah as Widow, still with her now married daughter, and living in Clare St. back in Liverpool. So at least in 1901, John is alive. But where? Not at home with his wife and daughter in Bootle. So where could he be residing that the enumerator would have recorded separately? What institutions (eg Hospital?) might have been his place of residence? Where might I find the relevant census return? Also, what is the most likely cemetery John might have been buried in after1901 assuming he died in Bootle? For any suggestions, tips, guides, ideas, I will be most grateful. Bill Jones Rye, NH. USA.

G'day Frances, There are two sources of information: First there are the City Directories which were commercial publications (Gore's, Kelly's) listing all the householders in alphabetical order. Some later directories also has had listings in street order, but I've no idea if this was case for the Kelly's Directories of the 1920s. The second source is the Electoral Roll which lists all the people living at an address who were entitled to vote in both National and Local elections (there used to be different qualifications). These are listed in street order. You should find these records in the Liverpool Record Office or Reference Library.
