Hello William., You brought up a good point about the actors (comedians) back then. I suppose they could get away with having just the one act for quite some time couldn't they ? I was hoping by writing this query that maybe someone would come up with a write up from a old newspaper about Arthur Daniel Ewing or his son Arthur Edward Ewing. That would be very exciting. Thanks so much William I really appreciate your input on this. Have a great day. Margie bmpage@sympatico.ca
Thanks so much Shirley I only had part of what you had sent me about Daniel Ewing.. so I do thank you for sending it along.. Your help is much appreciated. Have a great day. Margie bmpage@sympatico.ca
Comedian can be just another word for actor. So if you find a match for Arthur and it's not in the joke-telling business, don't rule it out. Hello listers. My first posting, I would appreciate help to find a birth reg. for Walter Gifford HILTON, b. abt 1843, on census. On the IGI there is WGH parents James and Catherine HILTON, birth 13 Nov 1842, Christened 21 April 1844, Saint Peter, Liverpool. I believe he is "mine" but the only ref. I found on Free BMD and Ancestry is unreadable/incomplete. It reads: Walter Gifford HILTON, reg. 1842. 0ct/nov/dec. District Liverpool (1837-1934), Lancashire. Vol. 20, PAGE 1-- Of course, GRO could not issue any copy upon request. I am trying to confirm the IGI entry. Perchance, does anyone have access to Saint Peter's records, or might find an index reference ? I will order the LDS film 0093884, if necessary, but it takes 5-6 weeks to get them ........ Thanks so much for any help or suggestions. Madeline in California

In an old Kelly's directory for the street in which I grew up the early 1900s listed such professions as acrobats and others associated with the music halls. If you think about it, an "artiste" could start at one end of the country and over a period of years slowly work his way around a whole slew of music halls using the same act night after night. By the time he got back to square one everyone there had forgotten his act. Not like today with one show on TV and half the world has seen it! David The family that you mention is not "mine", There were at least 3 Heath families in the area simultaneously but the one into which my father Frank was born originally came from Manchester around 1875. Father William [born 1850] married Mary Speakman [born 1850] from Manchester and they had 8 children., all can be seen in the 1901 Census living at 20 Peel Street. Mother Mary had died, leaving father William with Mabel, William A., Annie, Lucy Maud, Marjorie, Alfred & Frank. Terry Heath Cheltenham UK
Can anyone tell me which would be the nearest Church R.C or C.of E. circa 1962. Hilary.

If you're on ancestry there's a kind of information pathway shown above the image and when you click on the bit that says 'Foot regiment 29 North Camp' or whatever it gives you a menu including the enumeration description. This info was always available in the old ancestry paradigm but was harder to access. Hello all, I just found out that I have a comedian plus an actor in my family tree. Now I'm wondering how famous they really were back in their day ! Arthur married Mary Ann Kelso in 1891 in St. Augustine. Also.. Arthur Edward Ewing. the actor born in Liverpool 1893 ...Son of Arthur Daniel Ewing & Mary Ann Kelso. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Margie bmpage@sympatico.ca Sorry I sent my first query to the wrong rootsweb address..
Carolyn, I assume you mean by IGI you really mean www.FamilySearch.org, which in addition to the IGI Files is their Ancestry Files, Pedigree Resource Files, and 1881 British census. There is now a new FamilySeach that contains some of the data on the LDS VRI-II CDs. The new website URL is pilot.FamilySearch.org. There is another, new.FamilySearch.org, that is only for members of the LDS church that contains family trees, and contains even more data. Otherwise give some details of who you are looking for and someone who has the VRI-II CDs will help you out. Ah, well that's different! The 29th Foot was (in 1861) "The 29th Worcestershire) Regiment of Foot", based in England 1859 to 1863 when it moved to Ireland. Merged with "36th (Herefordshire) Regiment of Foot" in 1881 to become "The Worcestershire Regiment" Don't know much about 12th Lancers other than it was 12th Dragoons (subsequently "12th Prince of Wales's Regiment of Light Dragoons" from 1768), but I can't help with any other info - probably lots available through Mr Google!
