Hi all interested in the Ghosts theme. How about someone sets up a flickr account which relates to this rootsweb group so as anyone with pics can post them for us all to see. -----Original Message----- From: eng-liverpool-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-liverpool-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Glenys Woosnam Sent: 15 November 2009 18:46 To: eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] Ghosts Mike I am contacting you off list in regards to your ghost photo. I have no feelings about the original subject either way, in fact I found it rather interesting. On the other hand I have to say that these lists only work if they are kept spam free and interesting, so that people actually read the posts and then try and give helpful answers. With that in mind I have to say that it might be better if people who wanted copies of the photograph made their requests directly to Mike and didn't clutter up the list. I think that might make some other people happy! or happier!! If someone had told our ancestors how we communicate today - with the internet, mobiles and faxes they would not have believed it , and probably some would have suggested that we be burnt as witches ! In search of information of any kind It always pays to keep an open mind re the past, the present and the future... and I thought it was a shame the discussion was shut down. Hi Eileen, I have found mention of an Orphanage at Christ Christ in Claughton, Wirral - but it looks as if this may have closed as there doesn't seem to be anything current on the internet about it. However, Barnardo Homes are still on the Wirral and they do tend to collect all the records of Orphanges etc - might be worth asking them about it. Derek, Welcome to the list! One thing you have to remember is to "spook when you are spooken to!" Once you strike this happy "medium" you will hopefully be pleased that you have joined the list. I have never regretted it although sometimes I am aware listers do get carried away and go on a bit. What they all need is for the "Inspectre" to come down heavy on them all. Hi all I joined this list a couple of weeks ago, and I'd like to ask a general question - hope you don't mind. What area is this list meant to cover? Just Liverpool itself - or outlying areas as well? By "outlying areas" I mean villages that have become more like suburbs over the years - place like Huyton. I don't want to annoy people by posting about areas that aren't deemed part of Liverpool. I am researching my husband's family tree - most of his ancestors came from Liverpool or Wigan or rural areas in between. Names we are researching include Roberts, Ashcroft, Taylor, Henderson, Green and Lunt. Angelika
I'd like a copy please Jane :o) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike Hayes" <mikeljan1@yahoo.co.uk> To: <eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 15, 2009 4:01 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] Ghosts Hi List This is the only answer I will give to this topic as some of you are getting "funny" about it. First of all a slap on the wrist for those who contacted the rootsweb and not myself via my email with regards to this post and my photograph, you naughty peoples! Secondly and unfortunately on here, the written word has no tone or expression so someone can write something which, to one person will read how it was wriiten or be misinterpreted as a sarcastic comment or an attack on the article/topic. Third should it not be left to the administtator to call a halt to posts not the contributors. Fourth, the topic was relevant to the article posted as I had expericenced the same thing when tracing gravestones and finding only grass where one may have been or not. It just so happened that at the time I took the photograph and what appered on there was not there when I took it or so I thought. Lastly, unlike those who claim to have seen images of Christ and Allah, how do they know it is them, there are not pictures/paintings of them at that time fro an accurate description of what they looked like so my next door neighbour who has a beard could look like Jesus! At least I have an actual photograph verified or NOT as genuine and who or what it may be of not a description 70 years after the event!# Mike Hayes rather rattled by people who should no better PS like I said at the beginning last word on the subject PPS those of you who genuinely would like to see the picture email me and I will send you a copy and judge for yourselves. --- On Sat, 14/11/09, judy olsen <copywriter@tesco.net> wrote: From: judy olsen <copywriter@tesco.net> Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] Ghosts To: eng-liverpool@rootsweb.com Date: Saturday, 14 November, 2009, 23:16 People see what they want to see in 'ghost' pictures in the same way some devout religious people notice sacred images in everyday objects. But funnily enough you never get Christians seeing the name of Allah in the seeds of an aubergine or a Muslim spotting the face of Jesus in a slice of pizza. I don't see how a spiritualist can 'confirm' anything of this nature, but photographers can usually explain the tricks of light and shadow involved. I suggested sending the image to Richard Wiseman because he posts such things to his blog for comments and people are able to reply with scientific explanations. Also as a psychologist he is good at explaining how we see or fail to see what is really there (see his stuff on You Tube). I've been to a few of his talks and he's a former magician so its always fun. When I was at school I 'saw a ghost' in the dormitory. So I'm quite aware how convincing these things can be. But there is always an explanation. Hello List, I'm back with another question. I have just received an email from a relative in Ireland who says he was present when a phone call was received from an Irsh Nun by the name of Sister Patrick Hegerty from an orphanage in Clauthon, Birkenhead, Liverpool, The phone call was about trying to get a child adopted, I have a strong feeling this child was my either my first cousin or my sibling. not sure of the time frame but would have been prior to my birth in 1956. Does anyone have any information about this orphanage? or this Nun. probably a long shot but thought I would try anyway. Many thanks for your input Eileen
