    2. Bill Kelly
    3. Hi Stephen, My Kelly family came from Armagh to Wigtown in Scotland around 1845 (famine time) and remained there for about 35 years. I know for sure that William Kelly (born circa 1823 Ireland) and some of his family (Mary b. 1854, Arthur b. 1863 and Patrick b. 1866) moved to Liverpool and were living at 45c Canterbury Street in 1881. Some of the others went to America. Other family members - John (b. 1847), James (b. 1849), William (b. 1851), Thomas (b.1850), Peter (b. 1858) and Rosean (b. 1860) My grandfather's brother, John Kelly born 1878 in Albany, USA also lived in Liverpool. I believe someone in the family was a publican in Liverpool. While we share a very common name, I wondered if there was a family connection. Best wishes, Bill Kelly ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stephen Kelly" <keggsie@gmail.com> To: <ENG-LIVERPOOL@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 01, 2009 12:05 PM Subject: [ENG-LIV] Surname interests > Anyone researching the following names in the Liverpool area: > > Shaw, Pe(i)nnington, Watkinson, Banning, Kelly, Hudspith > > Regards > Steve > -- > Gen Mag Online - Foremost unique online genealogy ahd history magazine. > www.genmagonline.co.uk > ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ > > Admin Message - List guidelines: > http://freespace.virgin.net/genealogical.collections/AdminMessage.htm > > The list admin can be contacted at > Eng-Liverpool-admin@rootsweb.com > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ENG-LIVERPOOL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

    3. All, I finally have something to put on the board. 1911 census: Agnes Williams with children Ellen, Christine & George. She is the widow of Charles Williams, Fireman. They live in a 1 room (apartment) at 148 BK Boundry St. Ellen is my father's mother. With so many Williams, it is hard to get anywhere. I have, however, made contact with a cousin in Manchester who was kind enough to find the family on the 1911 Census. We have lost contact and did not know Ellen's sibling's names. Kind Regards, Sandra Cook

He seemed to have a tribe of kids from at least 3 different women and I suspect it's his son who's the deserter. John Hutt - Corps 3rd Foot - Age 20 - Origin Liverpool, Lancaster, ENG, basket maker, 20 Feb 1839. Can anyone advise what would have happened to deserters (I know it aint pretty..lol) and if there's be more details re this young John Hutt? regards Lee Deutrom, nee Perry Melbourne Australia

    1. [ENG-LIV] Home Boys
    2. John Maddocks
    3. With all the interest of late regarding Home Children and evacuationat the start of the last war ,I was wondering if there where still any Elm Lodge boys still with us ,Elm Lodge was one of the many Homes run by the Waifs and Strays Society ,it was in Waterloo I can,t recall the name of the road but is quite near the Mersey ,where one memory was seeing the Mauratania leaving Cammel Lairds over the river on its Maiden voyage . We where all evacuated well before the outbreak of the war (the home would have been a vunerable spot not far from the Gladstone Docks)North Wales was the first destination Glyn Creiog on the moors we where lodged in a Palatial shooting box owned we think by Sir Alfred McAlpine ,we helped as beaters when a shoot was in place a another memory was a farm cart piled high with Pheasant and other game ,they where genorous with the birds and I can still recall the distinct smell of roast Pheasant ,one of the shooting guests I recall was General Ironsides who was shortly to be in France with the B.E.F. The location in Glyn Ceriog proved unsuitable (very cold)and we where moved to St Giles Home Wrexham ,we remember war being declared whilst we had been in Wrexham for a month or two ,so for us at least we could seem that war preparations wher in hand . To confirm this there was a World War ! tank in front of a nearby park this was removed for scrap prior to us leaving Elm Lodge . I remember some names of long ago pals Joseph Jukes Tony Padden and ? Dunn to name a few . So if any body has memories let us know . John Maddocks New Zealand

    3. I've been helping someone in Australia who contacted me via my Allerton Cemetery web site. I've found her grandfather's grave which is at Kirkdale cemetery, but has no headstone, and have the order numbers for the 2 people buried in the grave. Next step is to get the information from the burial orders at Liverpool record office. I think they may be on paper and so accessed in the archive room (if that's the correct term). The big request is for someone who will be visiting the records office who would be able to look up this information. We'd be after all the information on each of two burial records. Cheers, Jeff Jones

    3. - I have a few wiliam williams in my family tree and yes they came from wales ,regards sylvia Hi all Yes, there are a lot of us Williamses about (about a quarter of a million in the UK alone today). I'm looking for Davies, Thomas, Morgan, Beynon, Morris, Jones (Oh dear!) and Williams, all in Llanelli and all about 1850. The number of times in Wales they went for David Davies, Thomas Thomas, Morgan Morgan, John Jones and William Williams is quite remarkable but probably a hangover from and adaptation of the patronymic naming convention where this sort of thing would be just a reflexion of the common practice of calling a boy after his father (Eynon ap Eynon becoming Eynon Beynon, for instance). Oh for an unusual occupational name like Smith. Count your blessings you are looking in Liverpool and not in deepest Wales!
