I'd like to publicly thank Maureen and Rosemary for their lookups. I've responded privately to them both. With such common names in such a large city I'm extremely grateful for their assistance. Thank you, Sandy Sandy, Kennewick, Washington, USA

Hi Listers, I'm helping a friend with her research. June 17th 2012, I put a request on the Manchester list for help with burials at Southern Cemetery. With the kind help of Martin sending me a photo of the headstone, I have now been able to take things further and know that Catherine Royle and Betsy Lowe do fit into my friends tree. Catherine Royle [b1886 Manchester] and Betsy Lowe nee Royle [b1892 Manchester], are two daughters of Edmund Ridley Royle [b1852 Manchester] and Mary Ann Killen [b1855 Liverpool]. Mary Ann Killen is the sister of Catherine Killen [b1837 she was born Ireland, some census has it as Liverpool] and Jane Killen [b1858 Liverpool]. If there is there anyone also dealing with any of these names, I would be interested to hear from them. Best regards. Jean
Hi Sandy You may already have this info, there are 2 possible baptisms on the Lancs OPC site - Ann daughter of William & Betty Johnston, occupation book keeper 7 Dec 1819, Liverpool, St Peter & Frances Helen on the 22 Apr 1822. HTH Regards Maureen -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Sandy Boleware Sent: 07 July 2012 19:07 To: [email protected] Subject: [ENG-LIV] William JOHNSON Lookup Please Hi, I've just joined this list in hopes of connecting with someone with specific knowledge of Liverpool. I've been on the Lancashire list for many years, but this query is area specific. I have an ancestor named William JOHNSON who married Elizabeth WILLIAMS 7 Jul 1819. The marriage is on the Lancs OPC site, and on familysearch and Ancestry. The actual image is on Ancestry, and shows that William JOHNSON of the parish of Liverpool, Servant man, married Elizabeth WILLIAMS of the same parish, Spinster, by banns. He signed, she made her mark. The marriage took place at St. Paul, Saint Paul's Square, Liverpool according to familysearch. When his daughter Elizabeth married in 1843 she gave her father's occupation as "book keeper." I have no other information about William, or Elizabeth Williams. I haven't found the family in any census--but with such a common name, and places of birth unknown I'm not sure how to find them. I've done a search on Ancestry for William JOHNS! ON with an approxiamate DOB, with Liverpool as his residence. Looking at online historical directories I found a listing for a William JOHNSON, book keeper in Gore's 1825 directory living at 15, Upper Mann street. In the 1827 Gore's there are 11 William Johnsons given, and the closest with an occupation similar to book keeping is Wm. accountant, 31, Christian St; office 6, Post office pl. I don't know enough about Liverpool to know if these addresses are near St. Paul's Square. Also, is it the experience of listers that the minister would have given his occupation as servant man if he was a book keeper? It's possible that he was an apprentice at the time of his marriage, but was listed in Gore's six years later with that occupation. Are there any Liverpool records available that would help me find out more about this couple?
