    3. David, Have you looked for his father on 1911 Census, you would have his name from your fathers marriage cert. If you don't have access to census, let me know and I will see what I can find. If his father was named William Thomas McWilliams, I have found his marriage to Nellie Winifred Allan West Derby Sep Q 1909. Also a birth for Allen William McWilliams Dec Q 1909 West Derby, both these were found on FreeBMD. Best regards. 3. Hi David, I can't answer your questions but you don't give details of his birth so I presume you don't know it. You don't give his father's name from the marriage certificate, that and father's occupation might be useful. Also does it give place of birth on the death certificate. Of course that info is only as good as the supplier of the info knows. I have found a birth in Dublin, Ireland in Aug 1907, parents John and Clare. But that says Presbyterian. Is that a possibility? Also there is an Allen McWilliam b c 1910 on the New York passenger lists on 3 occasions in 1926. He is a crew member, employed as a pantry assistant. Also an Alan McWilliam who is a merchant but his address appears to be London so I have not looked closely at him. Hope this helps Christine -----Original Message----- From: David McWilliam Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2012 10:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [ENG-LIV] Catholic Confirmation - Alan McWILLIAM Any Lister who may be able to help please? 1. Re: [ENG-LIV] Catholic Confirmation - Alan McWILLIAM
    2. Antony Marr
    3. David 1 - Sacred Heart is the name of the parish church in which he was confirmed. Unless the family moved around, this would usually be the church in which he was baptised. I notice that on Ancestry the Liverpool Catholic records only go to 1906. I would recommend accessing the later records if you haven't already done so to check for a baptism record around 1910. Check with the Liverpool records office, or the Liverpool FHS for access to copies. 2 - Joannis Baker ...John Baker - in a confirmation, this would be the "sponsor" rather than a god-parent (which is for baptism). A similar role to a god-parent in a baptism, and could be the same person, but they could be a friend of the family , a relative or another member of the parish..... maybe the local catholic schoolteacher. 3 - I wouldn't expect the church to have any other information than that on the confirmation record. Except to say that if he was confirmed there will certainly be a record of a catholic baptism somewhere. You might also consider checking if there are any records at the local catholic school. A name taken at confirmation, such as Paul in this case, may sometimes be used as a middle name by catholics although many will not. 3. Hi David, Googling brings up a Sacred Heart RC church at 2 Hall Lane, Kensington, Liverpool L7 Answer to number 2. Joannis Baker is John Baker. I notice he was also godfather to the following child Philip Simmonds. Could they have been orphans or something? At that time (don't know about now) you were given an additional name at a Catholic Confirmation. He was given the name Paul. (My father was given Francis, which he never used as an adult). Presumably you have looked at the RC baptisms online at Ancestry? Have you found a McWilliam baptism which links with the father's name shown on his marriage certificate to your mother? 3. Hello David Sacred Heart is a Catholic Church and the link below may be of interest in this respect: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hibernia/churches/sac/sac. htm Joannis Baker would be John Baker: you may have some success with the link above as some of the records may be at the Liverpool Record Office. Otherwise you would need to write to the appropriate Diocese. I did a lot of searching for my grandmother, who unfortunately never had a birth certificate, and the Ancestry RC records finally helped a lot because I found her baptism record there, which in turn gave me her birth date and parents' names. 3. Hi David, There is a match for an Alan McWilliam born bet 1909 - 1911 in the Scottish census. Sadly, I have no credits left to view this and see if anything would help further, but it might be something to bear in mind. http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/: You searched for "alan" "mcwilliam" 1909 - 1911 Census 1911.Learn more. 1 match Statutory Register Births 1909 - 1911.Learn more. No exact matches I notice that Joannis Baker is also shown as a godparent/sponsor to Phillipus Geraldus Simmons, does that name have any connection to the family? Given that the confirmation is carried out some 10 years after the birth of it's possible that the sponsor was supplied by the church itself, and that the child could have been orphaned or maybe even abandoned by the parents, but that is purely guesswork on my part :o) Hope the Scottish information is worthwhile. Hi Hilary If this link works it will give you a good street guide to early 1900s Liverpool and area http://www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co.uk/liverpoolaz/streets.htm As you can see from earlier posts the necropolis cemetery became Grants gardens which was originally a rose gardens with a children's playground at the Mill Rd end I used to play there in the 1950's so I am not quite sure when it became just a grass field but it would be sometime after the 1960s. I have some scanned photos of the Necropolis as the graveyard and also as the rose gardens if you want a copy. 1. [ENG-LIV] ADMIN: delayed mail

    3. Hello all We've had a quiet weekend, haven't we? Most lists had no mail this weekend due to a problem with one of RootsWeb's mail servers. Someone must have gone in to the office yesterday and kicked the server, because mail then started to flow to the lists. Everything seems to be back to normal. Keep your fingers crossed! Kind regards, Lynne
