    3. Hi Jackie, Ancestry.com will be more helpful to you than findmypast with London entries in particular. If you subscribe to them, you will be able to see the actual baptismal registers. And marriage certificates if you can trace the family further. For example, this is the summary they hold: Name: William Alfred Kettle Record Type: Baptism Estimated Birth Date: abt 1887 Baptism Date: 31 Jul 1887 Father's Name: Alfred Kettle Mother's Name: Annie Kettle Parish or Poor Law Union: Kensington St Philip Borough: Kensington and Chelsea Register Type: Parish Registers Regards, Sally ---------------------------------------- > Hi all, I found these entires on Findmypast however my question is > before I obtain a subscription is, am I actually going to see the > handwritten transcripts with details of parents etc or am I only going > to get the > index pages of which I have already seen and then do I need to order all > the certificates?????????????? 3. What you get on FMP is a digitised version of the GRO indices, not the actual register entries. So basically the information you already have, plus volume and page number so you can quote them when you order the certs. It would be nice if the registers themselves were digitised somewhere, sometime, but to my knowledge it hasn't happened yet. You still have to order the certs, unless you can find the info on Online Parish Clerk (which I sometimes have, depeding on the diligence of the clerics involved!) Hi David, I don't have full membership of Find My Past, but I know that it will not give you as much information as it is possible to get if you approach the Southampton Archives, who can search to see if they hold any record cards for William, and send you copies of his Register Cards. A search on Find my Past throws up ......... First name(s) :William Last name :Mcwilliam Year of birth :1875 +/- 2 years Discharge Number: R32000 ..and that's without paying any subscription, and I suspect that Southampton will therefore have Seamen's Registry cards for this person. He was married to Agnes (can't decipher maiden name properly but looks like KERR) in Montreal in 1908 - they lived at 23 Ferndale Road Fazakerley and had two children both born in Scotland. 3. Mmmm... I haven't checked again but I seem to recall that a lot of them were adults, which is why I found it such a puzzle. Babies and toddlers would indeed have been understandable. My best guess is a tooth abscess that we'd easily deal with these days with antibiotics but the infection spread in those days and the only obvious symptom would have been raging tooth ache. Our ancestors didn't have it easy. Lesley -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Maria Haines Sent: 24 August 2012 13:10 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] A question I need answered, please. I am guessing that someone who died of 'teeth' would be a baby/toddler. In the days when many fevers in very young children were ascribed to teething, it was an apparently logical step to understand the deaths which sometimes resulted from these fevers (the serious/fatal ones of which, of course, were actually extremely unlikely to have been caused by teething) to 'teething'. I have also seen church burial registers in which 'teeth*ing*' was given as the cause of death, along with the age of the person - always (in the ones I've seen) under the age of 2. Does this fit with the entries you're referring to? Maria

    3. Hi, im not looking for anyone alive regarding this family, but what I am looking for is the exact date of her death which took place in Liverpool in the March Qtr of 1977. She is one of my aunts, the sister of my father and I know where she married, her birth date etc but I can for the life of me find a date, exact date, that is day month and year just for my records. I dont think its worth spending £10 by sending for a certificate just to find the date, and im wondering if any of her family are interested in their family history and might just have her as a mother or grandmother. She married Edgar Swann also of Liverpool in Wandsworth London in 1929 and he was a book keeper by profession moving around the country for work, So i dont think im breaking any rules, at least i hope im not in just asking for a date of her death, maybe a son or daughter or grand children might recognize he same and could come up with a date for me. I dont need to know any names of anybody. Thanks and hope that someone reckons the name in their family. TED LUNT.
