    3. Many thanks Anne & Vern for your various suggestions - especially the two ship links of which I was unaware and castlegarden.org. I shall add them all to my favourites. Carolyn -----Original Message----- From: Anne Peat [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 22 October 2012 13:18 Find My Past has UK outgoing passenger lists, but only from 1890 onwards. You could try finding them on entry to the US, There is the Ellis Island site, http://www.ellisisland.org/ but that only starts from 1892 You might find something on http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/passengerlists/index.htm This might also help http://www.olivetreegenealogy.com/ships/ Also, don't ignore the fact that many people bound for New York entered the new world via Canada. Mine, who went to Ohio eventually, did. Anne

    1. Re: [ENG-LIV] Outgoing passenger records Liverpool to New York / US BMD & Census records for William BLACKMORE
    2. Carolyn McCartney
    3. Hi Sally, No, unfortunately I do not have access to US census. Rosemary kindly sent me the image of an 1880 census entry for a Henry C Blackmore age 30 but I don't think it is him because he is with wife Elizabeth age 22 (he married Harriet in 1872) and daughter Grace, age 1. The only evidence I have for Henry in New York (or any of them for that matter) is from family search which shows the marriage of Henry Blackmore to Harriet Waterson in New York in 1872. I would like to be able to find the birth of their child William Henry too. The tree I was handed down (which has already been shown to have errors) gives his parents as Henry & Harriet and his birth as 1870 which would make him illegitimate though but of course the date on the tree may well be incorrect. Rosemary also very kindly sent me a strong possibility of William & Elizabeth in London, Canada in 1861 but without any children. The only problem is it shows Elizabeth as being 11 years younger than William whereas i thought it was only a couple of years so I am just keeping this one on hold for the moment. Rosemary was also very astute in noticing that the Wm & Eliz Blackmore on the Canadian census were Methodist (if that is what M means). As The Zion Free Gospel Chapel in Liverpool was where their third son John was baptised in 1846 was also Methodist, it does tie in. Kind regards Carolyn -----Original Message----- From: sally roberts [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 23 October 2012 16:49 To: englanliverpool Subject: Re: [ENG-LIV] Outgoing passenger records Liverpool to New York / US BMD & Census records for William BLACKMORE Hi Carolyn, I take it you have sight of William Henry Blackmore on the American census? JESSOP, Pow Street, Workington, was entered at a late hour. Entrance was obtained by forcing open the shop door in Pow-street. The robber or robbers decamped with the cash-box, which fortunately contained two threepenny pieces and a few coppers. On going his round, the constable discovered that the door was open, and an alarm was raised. The matter is in the hands of the police. There is reason for believing that the robbery was committed by persons who were familiar with the premises and the mode of barricading the shop door. >_____________________ > >A MAN KNOCKED DOWN WITH A HORSE AND TRAP. - On Wednesday afternoon, a painter named JOHN FLETCHER, living in Derwent Street, Workington, was knocked down near the "Star" office Finkle Street by a horse and trap belonging to MR. Whilst doing so, Dixon's trap came past and knocked down before the driver could pull horse up. The man was very much shaken, and bruised about his nose. He was taken home in Dixon's vehicle. The street is dangerously narrow at the place, and it is a wonderful thing that so few accidents happen. > >_____________________ > > >SPECIAL MEETING OF THE WORKINGTON LOCAL BOARD. - On Monday afternoon a special meeting of the Workington Local Board was held for the purpose of sealing a power of attorney, authorizing the Board's brokers (MESSRS. BRAGG, STOCKDALE, AND CO.) to sell out consols to produce £4, 283 6s 8d. The members present were MESSRS. G. J. SMITH (chairman), J. MILBURN, J. FLETCHER, W. WILSON, W. CARRUTHERS; with MR. J. WARWICK (clerk). It was explained that the stock formed part of the sinking fund, and the Board were selling out in order to pay off bonds which had become due. As the Board is paying 4 per cent. on the bonds, and only receiving 2-3/4 per cent. on the sinking fund invested in consols, a considerable saving would thus be effected. >__Barb, Ontario, Canada.

    3. For some unknown reason a Panorama was put out a few weeks ago in the time slot used for Who Do You Think You Are. If that had not been there the series would have finished last week. A new Michael Palin series starts in that timeslot next week so a contributor to the programme has been told by a member of the production team that it will go out on 12th December 1t 2100h. To quote from the message posted on ROOTSWEB I received the following e-mail from a member of the production team..... "We are pleased to inform you that we have a confirmed TX date for John Bishop. This will be transmitting on Wednesday the 12th of December 2012, 9pm on BBC One, UK time. See below TX card for more information. We hope you will tune in to watch the final programme in Series 9 of Who Do You Think You Are? Just to let you know Who Do You Think You Are? will be returning in Summer 2013 for the tenth series." It looks as if the final programme in the series has been delayed to make way for Michael Palin. However, I would check regularly before the above date if I were you because they do seem to move it about! I have been doing fh for so many years and still seem to be useless! Before I went to bed last night I had also come to the conclusion that the 1851 family in Bangor were in fact the correct one. I think it was the marriage to Elizabeth BROWN that threw me off the scent. We know she was Elizabeth HOLLAND from Henry Wm's marriage in New York so I thought incorrectly that the Bangor family probably belonged to Elizabeth Brown, especially as we had been told the couple emigrated straight after their marriage - just shows, you can't believe anyone! This William Henry is my husband's great grandfather. Now I need to ascertain whether the whole family or just the 4th child Henry went out to NY. Family search shows his marriage to Harriet Waterson in 1872, New York. One last question, how should I go about making sure that, lets say John (a more common name), who was baptized in the Zion Free Gospel Chapel in 1846 isn't the son of William B & Elizabeth BROWN or do you think this is a mis-transcription and that was really meant to be Elizabeth HOLLAND as we can't find their marriage anywhere? Especially as there don't seem to be any more relevant William & Eliz B's to be found in the census? Sally, thank you also for reminding me about all the OPC Liverpool records available - I completely forgot about them and they are such a wonderful resource! I am away from home and my study at the moment so shall put it down to that! Many thanks again for your help all of you, I am most grateful. 3. If the previous information is correct, then this would appear to be a census sighting... 1841 Name: William Blackmore Age: 20 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1821 Gender: Male Where born: Lancashire, England Civil parish: Walton On The Hill Hundred: West Derby County/Island: Lancashire Street Address: Bartons Lane, No 2 Court Occupation: Fireman William Blackmore 20 Elizabeth Blackmore 20 Sarah Blackmore 1 The death reference for Isaac Holland Blackmore I sent earlier, matched with a birth that was registered in 1852 in Anglesey, Wales. On that basis, this would appear to be the family in 1851 Name: William Blackmore Age: 30 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1821 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Elizabeth Blackmore Gender: Male Where born: Liverpool, Lancashire, England Civil Parish or Township: Bangor Ecclesiastical parish: Bangor Town: Bangor County/Island: Caernarvonshire Country: Wales Residence (?Holyhead) Cottages (All born Liverpool) William Blackmore 30 - Railway Engine Driver Elizabeth Blackmore 31 Sarah Blackmore 11 John Blackmore 5 William Blackmore 3 Henry Blackmore 9 Mo Regards, Sally > > I thought if I could find them as outgoing passengers it might confirm > whether they married before they left Liverpool or when they got to New > York. 3. Find My Past has UK outgoing passenger lists, but only from 1890 onwards.
