It is with very great sadness that I have to tell you of the death of Ruth Tinley on Monday 2nd January at her home in Lincoln. Ruth was a founder member of the Society, the first Membership Secretary, and was involved in many publications, particularly the Loft Papers which she singlehandedly transcribed, and the indexing of the LFHS magazines. She also did a great deal of checking, including most of my poor law publications. Ruth celebrated her 90th birthday in July, had enjoyed excellent health, and was still going to the archives once a week, on the bus, until just before Christmas. Ruth was also on the other end of "localhistoryenquiries@lincolnshirefhs.org.uk" and many of you may have contacted her and indeed been helped by her. Ruth was very generous with her time and immense knowledge of Lincolnshire families and places. I will send details of the funeral when they are known. There may be a delay as the Coroner will be involved due to Ruth not seeing a doctor for some time.
