Hi all I'm sorry this is not a reply to the tax story, but is a query as to how I can officially pose a question about my Lincolnshire family. It concerns, in particular, the fens drainage and the significant movement of people for it. I'll be happy to be more specific when I know to whom I should address my problem which is about the consequent likely movements of my family Sorry for the intrusion Peter Gee Memb. To avoid the tax some houses from the period can be seen to have bricked-up window-spaces. The tax was repealed 156 years later (1851). Also interesting to note (according to Wikipedia): France (established 1798, repealed 1926) Income tax was not introduced in England until 1842. So, go ahead and put that new window or skylight in. It's too dark in here! Lou (list admin.) PS: You might want to research "Wallpaper Tax" and the "Brick Tax". I did not know of the Wallpaper tax, but the brick tax had an impact on brick making in the midlands. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ENG-LINCSGEN-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
