Hi Peter, Christopher and all, Thank you for your post Christopher. Very interesting, indeed. I have to admit I had not thought of my HOOTONs being descendants of Dutch immigrants but assumed they were of Anglo Saxon Origins. I have, over the many years looked at the HOOTON families in Lincolnshire and its surrounding counties and am pretty sure my Edward Hooton b. abt. Mar 1722 who married Elizabeth WOOD 13 May 1754 in Deeping St. James is the son of James Hooton b. 1685 who married Katharine Coxall, both of the city of Lincoln. This James' brother was Thomas HOOTON a well-documented Alderman of Lincoln. Both my parent's heritage is very clearly from The British Isles and other than a N. Irish line is English, as I've done the genealogy. My dad born is Suffolk and my mum's dad (PLOWRIGHT born in Lincolnshire...this grandfather married the daughter of the N. Irish part. I have had my DNA processed with the following results: Gr. Britain 43%, Scandinavia 21%, Ireland 17%, Europe W. 7%. I assumed my maiden name VESEY and the Norman conquest played a major part in these results. Would love to hear from anyone who has a thought on this. Thanks in anticipation Linda Sokalofsky B.C. Canada Hi Peter, Linda, and other missing Lincs, I am descended from Mary Vandebeck who was descended from Dutch immigrants who were brought out by the Earl of Bedford during the reign of K Charles I to drain the fens in Lincolnshire. There is quite a bit of this story online. Unfortunately, many of the local residents resented their arrival and burned their churches. Many moved out of Lincolnshire and settled near established Huguenots who had arrived the previous century so they could worship with them in their churches which had already been accepted within the community. I would presume that the HOOTON family were descended from the Dutch VAN HOUTON and that they were part of this migration. There is a part of Lincolnshire referred to as Holland.
